RT30014 mirror relocation brackets

I just bought the RT30014 mirror relocation brackets. I have to say so far I’m unimpressed. I installed the brackets. As I looked at the Jeeps hinges I found that one of the brackets has scraped the paint off of the hinge when I opened the door. Way too close. The next thing I realized is that the bolts that they supply are too short. Once they are in the mirror bracket with the two washers supplied, there is about two threads to work with. Not really enough to avoid cross threading. The next thing I noticed is that the new bracket is too wide. Which means that the edges of the mirror bracket are resting on the new bracket, and the center of the mirror, which stands in the air now by maybe an 1/8”, is unsupported and plastic, it’s now under the strain of the bolts that hold it to the new bracket. Of course it’s going break. I’m surprised they didn’t make the bracket a bit smaller so the higher points of the mirror bracket would go around the relocation bracket sides and the meat of the mirror bracket would rest on the new bracket. You can see in the pic what I mean. This would also allow the bolts a little more length, in the pic there are no washers. My only option, other than returning it, would be to buy new longer bolts and then make spacers to keep the OEM mirror bracket from breaking. I’m curious if others have used this bracket, and what was your experience? Also, did moving the mirrors cause visibility issues?

Wow, I don't have these so I can't offer any input, but just from looking at those, it looks like a half-assed design.

I’ve never even seen those before. Most relocation brackets I’ve seen utilize the 2 bolts on the windshield like these

They sure are scraping the crap out of the hinges. You can see the paint coming off on that black bracket.

My goal was to move the OEM mirrors to make removing the doors less of a hassle. In CA we have to have mirrors if we take off the doors. The aftermarket mirrors are a bit of a pain to install and they don’t work as well as the OEM mirrors when the doors are off. It’s not looking good at the moment though.

I thought I would come back and post a pic of the mirror attached to these brackets. It’s been miserably hot here to work on anything. The amount of mirror left showing is pretty useless and unsafe. So, I will return the item and send the pictures to the manufacturer so they can see if perhaps there is a better design to make it work. My other pictures have been passed on to the designers they say.
