Running doorless and topless for most of the summer questions

Thanks for all the ideas about mirrors and such. I have read that in PA running no doors is questionable/illegal, but the law seems a little unclear. You can ride a motorcycle without a helmet, but you have to have doors on your Jeep?

Thanks again.

I wouldn't worry about it. I've driven in PA for months at a time with no doors and I've never found an issue with the police. I have heard that some areas are worse than others about enforcing the law, but I still wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks for all the replies. Now researching mirrors. I think I want them to be rectangle like stock ones or something similar. I don't want to relocate them I don't think as that bracket seems to rust that I have seen.

If you want something cheap and low profile, find some take of Harley mirrors. They are loose in the door mount, but a little work and you have some low-pro mirrors. You can usually find people just about giving them away or make a friend at a Harley shop and see if they can hook you up.

I run without doors all summer. I keep a bikini top on the Jeep for shade, but it doesn’t really do much when it rains unless you’re parked. I’ve been caught in many thunderstorms and soaked the inside of the Jeep (seats, dash, everything) without ever having a problem. I was caught in one storm that ended up puddling about 2 inches of water in the tub. I don’t have the factory carpet, just bare metal and no spray in liner. In Colorado it’s dry enough that the water quickly evaporates and we don’t have rust issues. I did shop vac out the water the time that the rain filled up the tub.

I’ve never felt the need to get seat covers as the stock seats hold up just fine.

When I have the doors off, I use these mirrors. They take about 10 seconds to put on or take off and have minimal vibration. They are fully functional at highway speed.

Yeah I came here to plug kikbax as well. Met the guys who makes them over the weekend at an offroad expo, really nice guy. Bought mine there and really dig it so far. I did have some issues with it lining up with my door sensors like it was supposed to on one side but that's expected with how my Jeep is lol. They are really easy and fast to pop in and out and look good. They are a bit pricy though at $150. Worth it though in my opinion.

On the rain cover topic I plan on buying the rain gear TJ trail cover. It is USA made and looks solid. Has cutouts for side mirrors and you can even buy a version that supports a lightbar.

I am glad to see this picture since I don't want to remove my mirrors every time I put my cover on. I am leaning towards this type of mirror. They get mixed reviews for the most part, but I am sure I can modify them to work well regardless. The round is growing on me a little. No rush I guess.

Hah, dude, that's actually my TJ! The pirate sticker gave it away. Let me know if you have any questions about the cover or the trail mirros. I've had them both for at least 6 months and am pretty happy with them.

If you're looking to go door-less for the majority of the time, it may be worthwhile to just take out the carpet in the back and spray the bed with a good bed-liner to keep it from getting rust. Removing the back seat would also probably make things easier if you don't anticipate using it much.

You could also nab something like a Tuffy tailgate enclosure. This would give a bit extra of extra cover for your subwoofer if you put in the back and would also give you something to store stuff in.

What brand is that cover? I'd like to invest in one of those, I work 24hr days and can't depend on weather men/women!

I purchased that cover and think it is as good as it could be. I love it. I have 1/2 doors and fold my mirrors in and it covers them. If I go doorless, which I will sometimes, this cover will work perfectly as well. Great investment and good price.

Cool that is your jeep. Glad it is out there as it helped me make my purchase. Man this forum has a lot of very good contributors!!! Thanks.

Cheaper on extreme terrain though. That’s where I got mine from
