Running rough

1998 jeep wrangler tj 4.0. Every so often it starts running rough, missing and an occasionally back fire. When this happens it only last 10 to 20 seconds and then runs fine. I usually rev up the motor when it does this and that seems to help. Sometimes it will run perfect for days. Any ideas? Thanks

Does it typically happen after you come to a stop, from highway/interstate driving in hot weather? Could be injector heat soak, there is a service bulletin for that - misfire cyl 3. Have you checked the codes at all?
