peace all!

i’m new here + I’m trying to figure out the best route to take with my baby, Big Bertha. it’s been a year since I’ve had her, she’s my first car and I was extremely inexperienced when knowing what to look for upon purchase. I got news after an inspection the other day that frame is in pretty bad condition. she’s my daily driver and for work that heavily relies on my vehicle, it’s no longer safe/practical!

I just need some advice on how much I can sell for or what it’ll take to fix it up!

thanks in advance 🌞

Oh wow, that’s some bad rust.

This is going to be a large, time consuming, and expensive project to fix. Do you want a project?

Its already been repaired once it looks like. Seems most of the rot is now at the torque boxes and body.

i’m not really looking for a project if i’m being honest, especially with the demand of my job. I have a guy that is willing to buy it but he’s asking for an offer. I’m trying to figure out what would be a fair price to give him!

Send more pics of the frame. That's already been repaired with Safe T Caps and actually looks fine from what I see. Maybe other sections of the frame are rotting out. But your body is obviously in rough shape, though it's not necessarily a danger to drive.

Yes, more pictures of the frame would be great. The tub definitely needs a lot of work.

How many miles are on it? Is it a 4.0 model?

Trying to get more information so I can determine what a fair price might be.

no worries! I feel kinda silly since I don’t know much about what to look for!

it’s at 123,600 miles, 4.0L, 6 Cylinder

They didn't patch the frame fully so you still have rot issues near the rear control arm mounts. From the original photos, the frame looked like it might be fine, but that is not the case with the new ones unfortunately.

You need to patch the frame and weld in new torque boxes to pass inspection. Not a cheap or easy job sadly. Not sure you could expect to get much more than $2k out of it, if that. If you know a welder, I would get a quote before selling it.

Unfortunately, whoever applied the frame caps only did the skid plate. The frame is still rotting where it curves over the rear wheel.

thanks y’all for being so helpful!

I was able to get some insight and come to a solid offer. I’ll be selling my TJ but in the next few weeks I’ll be upgrading to a JK for something a lil more practical!

peace! ✌🏿

They're getting really tough on rust in PA. Ironic, since the state's oversalting of the roads is what causes it mostly. 5+ years ago that would have passed without an issue.

That's not to say you don't have issues, the frame is on borrowed time. Just depends on how much money and time you want to put into it. Unless there's a huge attachment to this particular Jeep, I'd bail on it.
