Hello and welcome! This thread is for my Jeep, Sally. feel free to say hello, give pointers, or ask questions.
This will be a multi-year-long journey of the adventures, breakdowns, and build progress of my 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport.

This is Sally, right now it's completely stock and has zero rust (very proud of that). My end goal is to do a frame-up restoration, alongside some upgrades and comforts to make it a well-performing budget off-roader while still being a comfortable daily driver.

please note: I'm broke and can't afford good new parts right now.

Current Status
after multiple long and taxing road trips alongside some wreckless offroading, Sally needs a vacation and some work. A couple of days ago I did some maintenance and repair on the jeep, I've replaced all the shocks (which are too long), replaced all the seals in my transmission, rebuilt my shifter, replaced the front wheel bearings, replaced the rear main seal, and replaced all the fluids.

what I know is wrong or needs to be done is this, the transmission and transfer cases both need an overhaul. all my bushings are worn out. my shocks are too long and bottom out. my rear main seal is leaking because I didn't rtv the edges of the cap. and a shitty front axle rebuild on my part has come to bite me in the ass.

to fix the shock issue I just ordered some cheap spring spacers on Amazon, and the transmission/transfer case/ bushings aren't an issue right now so those go on the back burner, the rear main seal is slow enough that I'll fix it during my next oil change. onto the big issue, the front axle. I can't afford a rebuild kit, and I don't want to leave it and damage anything more than it already is, so I plan to remove the front driveshaft, differential, and axles, because I don't plan on doing any offroading any time soon.

Do not - repeat DO NOT - remove the front axles shafts completely and drive the Jeep. Without the outer stub shafts in place the unit bearing will come apart and that would be very dangerous while driving. There is a way you can pull the inner shafts and leave the stub shaft in place, but it is not apparent to the uninitiated that the stub shaft needs to stay in place.

I can’t stress enough how dangerous this is.
 
sorry about that, I'm a bit new to posting so I don't know the proper thread etiquette yet

Think about it like this, you started a build thread so that is where you want to keep posting the main things you're doing to your TJ. Then when you have specific questions about something you're doing you can ask there and then if you don't get a response you can start a thread here in the general area asking about it.
It just makes things easier for you to keep track of what you've done to your rig plus keeps all your information in one place.

I'm a little confused, you replaced the shocks because they were too long, but you also still need to replace the shocks because they're too long.

Since you're on a budget (aren't we all?), how about you tell us about what's going on so we can best help you. Sounds like you've got a lot of work ahead of you, but nothing you mentioned is outside the bounds of what a mere mortal can do.

Good to know, I'm not going the be driving my jeep until I know I can safely. Ill look more into it before doing anything

My original shocks blew so I replaced them with a set that said they were compatible with stock lift, but those new shocks are still to long so they bottom out. I don't want to go through the hassle of sending them back and getting shorter ones, so I just bought some coil spring spacers until I can get a complete lift kit.
