Savvy off-road sold? (the unofficial Savvy customer support and Savvy rant thread)

We are very fortunate someone stepped up to deliver high quality and reasonably priced products for our platform. Of course, that wouldn't happen without this forum of individuals that recognize, and are willing to buy, said quality.

I’ve ordered rockers and a front bumper from @Fluxor, now just waiting for fabrication!

He is even willing to work with me to ship to Canuck land! In moving to Canada, lack of access to many US vendors has been one of the most annoying aspects. And when you can access it is usually at an obscene markup.

An important takeaway from this is that we ought to be following and promoting good design, rather than a brand name. While this has been the case for a prominent few over the years, it has often been misconstrued as superficial brand name fanboyism.

I wonder how long until Flux customers will start being misconstrued as fanboys.

If it happens, we may be able to consider that a mark of success. Though, hopefully the education surrounding the design choices will elevate the understanding of the forum audience and stave off fanboyism.

Interesting to see the recovery points under and tied in as the frame support.

Probably work fine in this application. If it was on my LJ I would drag them to the point of replacement.

Was thinking the same thing. That spot gets alot of wear. I’d much prefer like fluxs front bumper corner armor that even wraps on the bottom for protection. Not adding an extended hit point.

I drag that part on my TJ with a raised rear frame.

The only way that attachment will begin to work as a recovery point is if the ring plate is installed with flag nuts inside the frame rail, or if the bolt is sleeved all the way through the box frame.

The only reason Savvy made this change is because the manufacturing is easier to not put the ring through the bumper face where it belongs on a hardcore rock crawling bumper.

This was mostly from one day. Adding those hangy bits seems like a bad idea.

Guess if you have been waiting you might see something in the future. I've already made my bed with Fluxor, ain't gonna wait another year.

Don’t like the non adjustable, not double thickness, direct welded winch deck. Also what’s with the heat marks down the middle? Back side brace welded on?

It looks like it's outside the departure angle, but rocks don't follow the departure angle.

I’m glad with my Fluxor front bumper purchase. Sorry not sorry Savvy. I’ll still buy some of savvy’s products though!

I still need their steering box armor which is no longer on their website.

More cost savings at the expense of what used to be a high performance rock crawling bumper. Now the winch deck is half the thickness of the original design. And every one of those new welds to attach the fairlead mount and whatever internal bracing has been added to the inside is eliminating the heat treatment of the aluminum. And the reenforcement bend at the back of the winch deck is too small of a bend radius (and is way out of proportion).

One of the fundamental reasons for original Savvy design aesthetic being what it is was to utilize and preserve the qualities and characteristics the 6061t6 aluminum with as few compromises to it's strength and resiliency as possible. Whoever is doing these updates to the TJ line does not understand the material he is working with.

This is just aluminum stuff to attach to your Jeep.

But GenRight said their aluminum = more gooder than steel

We have covered multiple times how we know GenRight is less than honest about their aluminum because we understand how materials respond to fabrication.

The information is out there. Gerald himself is aware of it. And this is still what new Savvy is doing.
