So this isn’t my Jeep, it is my buddy’s. He is running Edelbrock heads with a performance cam. He replaced the factory OPDA with the Crown one less than 5,000km ago. Last week he loses oil pressure and gets a bunch of check engine lights. Shop digs in to it and says the Crown OPDA is totally seized, bearings are toast and it won’t spin.
Any thoughts? My best guess is the gearing on the aftermarket cam doesn’t match up with the OPDA?

That ground down cam gear is a terrible sight.
You will probably find metal particles throughout the engine.
Need to inspect the OPDA bushings oiling port; the engine oil keeps the bushings lubricated.

Fuck I was worried about a few shiny spots on my OPDA gear and cam when I changed it
Also doesn't look like my crown unit.
Having an 06 I did a bit of weekend "PBR" induced reading and it seems the OEM OPDA gear is harder (more tempered?) than the cam gear so the problem isn't always the lack of OPDA lube but harder gear to softer cam, this looks like what I imagined?
