I had the o'l double gasket on the oil filter trick played on me by my wife's old liberty. Took it for the test drive with the windows down, herd a small pop and then something sounded like it was spraying. That was a fun clean up. PSA, make sure the old gasket comes off with the filter. lol!

I think we are going to need a longer short bus for all us double gasketeers.

Probably the only reason I've never double gasketed is that I have a habit of wiping down the gasket surface with a lint free rag. (I apply fresh oil to the seal on the new filter).
That's actually one of the habits I adopted after the second time it happened to me (I guess I'm a slow learner sometimes).

Got a new set of deep dish style floor mats. Threw them quickly into the Jeep. 10 minutes later going for a drive. Foot on the brake pedal, start her up, shift into Drive and Jeep takes off at burnout speed. WTF? Stomping on the brake slows her down but not completely. Shift into neutral , she stops with engine racing. Shut her off. Checking around and I see the floor mat I had hurriedly tossed in earlier had it's front lip go under the brake pedal but over top of the gas pedal pushing it down. Can you screw up an easier job? Scared the crap out of me.

Somebody did that in a Toyota in California and died. Toyota recalled 6.5 million cars for "unintended acceleration". Kind of crazy for a "user error" situation.....but you know ........Litigation......

When I replaced my cooling system, I used a "too big" constant tension clamp on the pipe where it leaves the thermostat housing and goes to the radiator. I went to drive it to work the next day, and the hose blew off about 5 minutes into the drive and blew coolant everywhere. I stopped at a 7-11, bought the cheapest coolant they had, topped-off, re-clamped the clamp with my bare hands, which was only possible because it was too big, and carefully drove home. Put the right size clamp on, flushed the 7-11 fluid out, replaced the fluid and now everything is fine.

When I first got the tj in my mid twenties it was February 2009. The fender flares were faded to that ugly gray. Didnt have money so I used forever black. Worked great but i did it on the vehicle without masking off the body 🤣....i wasnt yet done ....to correct this, I used pure acetone to remove....it did that, and took a good noticeable bit of the clearcoat with it lol...

Still got the old girl and shes in better shape now than when I got her. My fam thinks im crazy but my gals dad was a car guy and she gets it.

Car notes are a scam and JL's are waaay overpriced. Give me something i can turn a wrench on.

A good practice is to check the oil filter gasket by kissing the gaskets of the new and old filters together. This not only ensures you don't double gasket but also that you are installing the correct oil filter and it lubricates the new gasket with oil.

Another way to do it is to look, but do you really trust your lying eyes?

You should have followed the Quadratec installation instructions.

I'm still trying to figure out why they didn't shift it to neutral and use the brakes? That display of massive stupidity went on long enough for them to call 911 and get someone on the phone to try and not die IIRC.

I do wonder if a nanny state car would give "permission" to shift to neutral with the TPS at 100% and an electronic transmission shifter?

My memory is that the later investigation showed that the sudden accelerations were a strange moment of mass hysteria. A few people reached for the brake pedal, but pushed the throttle instead. Panic set in and they pushed harder and never let go until the high speed crash.

The evidence of this was found in the throttle pedal mounts being collapsed from the driver trying to frantically brake as hard as they could.

I asked that very same question many times and no one was able to give an answer. I would however, bet good money that option is available now.

The crazy part was that the guy was law enforcement driving a rental car. The first time it occurred he stopped the car and then decided to continue and this time couldn’t / didn’t stop and killed his whole family. There was nothing keeping him from shifting to neutral or just turning the ignition off. NASA was even involved in the investigation. Every single occurrence was driver failure. But in an abundance of caution we spent two years fixing a nonexistent problem. To this day the first line on every repair order is “ inspect floor mats for proper installation “.

Well I can tell you that Toyota models will go into neutral with accelerator depressed. The ECU has a rev limiter to protect the engine from damage. Every model that had the 90L campaign and models built after have software to disengage throttle when the brake is depressed. This makes them hard to drive on a road course. Go into a corner and tap the brakes to set up and engine revs up and when you get off the brakes the transmission flares and then grabs sending you towards the curb.
