Back when I used to live on post they (civilians) would run the gate constantly in the PM to get home earlier. They never had a problem in the AM to get to work on time tho. Just to bad it wasn't a Prius!

What’s the background on that photo? Was it a legitimate stop (somehow I doubt it) or did the gate guard lean back in the button?
No clue, one of the members tagged it as Scofield Barracks. I know they have decommissioned Helo's at one of the gates from a quick google search but can't verify. And I seriously doubt it was a legitement stop due to lack of PMO vehicles or personnel in the photos. Looks like the TJ has a base sticker on the lower right of the window which is proper placement.

I was at Nellis years ago for a Red Flag and they popped the barriers for what was apparently a drunk driver that made a break for it. The car burned, don't recall if the person made it out. Those things are stout.

Long ago when I was stationed in KS, there was a base exercise and the dispatcher said “gate 1 don’t engage your barrier” all the dude at the gate heard was “engage your barrier” so he did, and the poor brand new Airman that he had just let through hit the thing going about 15 mph in a brand new Ford Escort. The car was totaled and her arm was broken.

Those things are designed to stop a full loaded semi going 70 mph, and it will stop them dead in their tracks.

To this day that dude still hasn’t been able to live that incident down and probably never will.
