Shock advice

Well. I didnā€™t intend to start quit the shit show this turned into šŸ˜‚.

Don't think you really know shit show means. This was one of the better threads overall. There was useful and relevant information shared and discussed ..whether you choose to read and understand is on you :)

I got the pair for what a single Accutune shock would have run. DGAF about the stickers.

I'm with you. No stickers on my shocks, either!

Wellā€¦. Hereā€™s where I differ a lot from the average internet troll. I come to these type forums to either learn or try my best to help someone else learn. I do my best to present the information in a way that isnā€™t arrogant, holier than thou or rude. When you try to assert your dominance with your superior knowledge of a subject I consider you just an arrogant jackass I canā€™t trust so I most likely wonā€™t heed your advice. I donā€™t mean you sir, youā€™ve always seemed to be helpful. I just think thereā€™s literally enough bullshit in everyday life that I can leave it behind here.

Best thing I have done to the Jeep.

I have the low speed adjusters on the ones I'll rebuild. Looking forward to getting them dialed in.i'm probably too cheap to get dsc caps right now, cool stuff though!

The ome bp51 resi shocks i put on my cousins landcruiser had compression and rebound adjusters. Once I read up on how to dial them in that rig was a dream on bumpy dirt roads, washboards, etc.

I had the older Fox LSC adjusters on the rear prior to the DSCs with the shock tuned with the goal of running the adjusters in the middle setting. That is generally where I would end up each time I would start fresh at the highest or lowest. I would also add a click of compression when the hard doors went on for the winter. They were useful and were interesting for showing people how much I could change the ride with only the rear adjusters.

The DSCs on both ends overshadow all of that with a level of nuance I never imagined. I have arrived on a road setting that I enjoy a lot. Next year, I need to spend more time finding a fast gravel road setting and a trail setting simply because I know it is there and it is quick to make the change.

Unfortunately I had already swapped the springs out before reading this . I took it for a drive down the same roads that I traveled yesterday and it seems smoother to me . It didn't jar as much and it definitely doesn't rattle the tailgate like it did . The only thing I changed was the springs and added the 2 inch spacers to maintain the ride height . For whatever reason , my Jeep seems to like the stock springs over the OME springs that I have .

You've missed the obvious. You switched to a 'lighter rate' spring that doesn't lift the Jeep as high, hence the 2" spacer to match the height of a different spring.
You're comparing apples to oranges. Springs that do the same thing will react the same way.

I also after the test ride let the air in the asshole 20ā€ E series tires from 28 to 20. That made a noticeable difference as well.

Careful; I know you're looking for a comfortable ride, but low-profile tires aren't designed for lower tire pressures.

I completely agree with you on the lighter rate spring . The lighter rate spring with the 2 inch spacer keeps the desired ride height while producing a smoother ride with all else being the same , such as the shocks . The heavier tires have also affected the ride and handling , but that's just part of the things you run into when going to larger tires . I didn't intend to compare the springs as to say they were equal in lift but one was smoother . If that is how it came across then I apologize to the readers of the forum . I was simply trying to state that using the stock springs with spacers produced a smoother ride than the OME springs that I have .

I love that orange color . I came close to buying one very similar to yours , but back then it was too much higher than the one I bought .

We already knew that was going to be the answer regardless of anything else. That's also why you didn't document shock shaft showing at ride height and a 15 minute test with the shocks removed. ;)

I would have taken your advice of a test ride without the shocks had I seen your post before I swapped the springs . I couldn't tell if he was being serious or if it was sarcasm . I believe you were sincere with your reply . I didn't measure shock shaft because my ride height is basically the same . I don't rock crawl and mostly do Forrest service roads so I believe the spacers will do fine for our uses . Occasionally we travel a moderate trail in Arkansas where 4x4 is necessary. Probably 95 percent of the time we are on a decent road , unless we are at home in Louisiana where the roads are terrible .

I am always serious. And this has nothing to do with rock crawling.

I know the 20ā€ rims Iā€™m running arenā€™t helping the ride quality. But when I saw how stiff that shock was I knew that wasnā€™t good at all. Currently on 32x10.5x20 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. It was really all I could get in my price range at the time. I want to drop to a 16 or 17ā€ rim and 33ā€™s this spring.

Any advice on how to proper size the Black Max shocks for application ? As stated I have no clue what lift is on the jeep. Iā€™m going to measure the springs tonight under load as per the chart I found on another thread.

The shocks are not all of the problem, any gas shock will be like that,I have to push my lowers back in with a bottle jack, mine rides great on 35s,problem is the 20 inch wheels, the tires have no side wall to flex, you will most likely have to get some 15 inch wheels and tires,
