Shop work gloves

Gloves at work are a sore point with me. I am usually wrenching or wiring on a customers’ piece of equipment on their property, with their ‘One Size Fits All’ safety rules. I am a big boy and will decide when to wear gloves and when not to. A desk jockey is not going to make that decision for me. I have gone as far as packing up my tool bag and walking off the job. That has resulted in calls to my employer, who backs me. The usual response is “How bad do you want the machine fixed?” Sometimes, when it‘s a simple job or isn’t worth the fight, I will tack on what I call an Annoyance Charge.

For my own stuff, gloves on for welding, grinding, sheet metal, and bailing hay. Also riding on toys. If I remember, which isn’t often, I’ll throw on a pair of nitrile gloves when draining a hot crankcase. As soon is that plug is out, though, those gloves are in the trash. My hands sweat too much for them to be comfortable.
