SJ’s TJ

Got my TMR crossmember welded up and installed with a buddies help:

I’m really happy with how it turned. Especially happy with how we fabbed up the exhaust hanger using pieces of the old trans mount. Stocked.

Same buddy, different welding job:

That diff skid is a fabbed up Rancho skid welded to a Ruff Stuff diff cover. The rear of the skid still uses a big U bolt so I can remove the whole unit when changing diff fluid.

I was out at Rausch Creek this past Friday. After a long day of running blacks and reds on the west and south side, we decided to try the hill climbs of trail 1 near the comp course and this happened:

My ball joints decided to give up the ghost. Thankfully we weren’t far from the parking lot, so my buddy dragged me back.

It was interesting to say the least to get the Jeep on the trailer. 2 Jeeps and highlift jack later:

Backed the trailer up to the driveway and winched her up the full 150 feet with my jack as the front wheel:

I got her back in the garage and the repair is in progress.

For those that don't know, he uses this little 4 cylinder like he means it. Having been there, some of the trails he's been on are flat out difficult. Very impressive!

It’s been a minute since I updated this thread. Not much to report on, but I did just install a Genright EXT tank with aluminum skid:

This is the first step in a new direction I’m taking this build, likely finishing next winter. I’m still working on the plans, but this is a big step (and cost) towards that goal.

Another update. I recently picked up a welder as I’ve been wanting to learn for awhile now and it really opens up new projects for the TJ. First on the list is new center body mounts. Here’s an example of how they look:

This gives you taste of how banged up these things are. I went with the Barnes boat side body mounts. They are a bit bulky, but I’ll try them out and see how they hold up. Here’s the passenger side completed:

As I’m still a novice welder, they turned out pretty good. Learned a lot and each one went better than the last. Still need to do the driver side, but this gives you the idea.

Looks good for a first time project. Why didn't you get some of the ones that were raised so you could get rid of your pucks?

Great question. I wanted something beefy and I honestly did really consider those. If these prove to be hanging up to much for my liking, I'll make the switch.
