New to me, '06 TJ "X" with hard top. I have a 2 car garage, and this is a third car - so it gets to live outside. I'm in Florida, so it gets hot. Even though I have the Jeep parked on the north side of the house, it still gets sun most of the day and the temps inside the Jeep are soaring...

I'm thinking of putting something like this on top:

It seems to move enough air to help from the anecdotes I've read, but what I don't want is a piece of crap that will die in 2 years, or leak, or cause other problems. There's multiple brands of these things, mostly aimed at the marine market, all in the $50-$60 range. Good solar products work well, but there's a TON of junk out there...

Any ideas, thoughts, or experiences would be appreciated!

That's only a partial option/solution, although it does help. It rains a lot here, and bugs/wasps.

Come on guys - reading is fundamental. I've addressed open windows already - I'm looking for someone who has used something vaguely similar to this. Rain, bugs, bees, and wasps come in through open windows...

Yes reading is fundamental!! I addressed your concern for bugs and rain...

I would think something like these would be better suited for your needs. As for the gaps in the window while these are in use you could always use some foam hose insulation tubes.

IMO, it would work better than just leaving your windows slightly down and it's a better option than putting a hole in your hard top.

Another option to keep the heat out of your interior would be to use something like this. it could be placed inside or outside your windows to reflect the sun.

But if you prefer to be ignorant and not listen to other ideas or suggestions that you asked for
that's your prerogative.

I'm out!!

That's good, because I'm not looking for half baked solutions, nor am I looking for someone to argue with.

As others have said, I’d avoid putting a hole in your top. With that being said, since you have an 06 I do believe it has the vents on the tailgate.... Why not buy a small solar panel to put on the roof and put a big computer fan blowing outward on the inside of your tailgate through the vent? Easy, cheap-ish, and no need to make holes.

That's an idea that just may have some merit. My only thought is that I have to make *some* kind of hole to even mount the panel and route the wire - but it has the advantage that the computer fans are long lived, move substantial air, and are readily available and cheap. I'm gonna have to noodle on this for awhile...

I don't really have a problem with the hole necessary for the linked product or something similar - IF it works (apparently so) AND it lasts (who knows?). Put it in and forget about it would be ideal.

That fan that you linked, wonder if you could put it on top of the cowl vent to blow air thru the HVAC? Not sure if the blend doors stay closed when the jeep is off or not.

That's another possiblity - solar panel "somewhere", fan in, on, or around the incoming vents. But this has its own set of challenges.
