Hey all.

2001 Jeep wranger -
Front passenger caliper seized.. replaced BOTH front calipers.
Tried to bleed the brakes, (2 person style, pump, pump, hold etc) seemed good until the jeep was turned on; pedal goes all the way to the floor, and then the parking light comes on/alarm sounds.

Pressure would hold if the booster was unplugged (And no light/alarm)

Replaced booster. Same issue. Further research says Master Cylinder.

New Master cylinder (bench bled) installed - all was good, until the vehicle was turned on... rinse and repeat.

It doesn't look like the shuttle valve in the combo is seated weird, we are at a complete loss!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance :)

What I would do before anything and definitely before throwing more parts at it, would be to either vacuum or pressure bleed the entire system.

There’s your problem. Bleeder need to be at the top, sound like you have a passenger side caliper on your driver side.

Bleeder needs to be on the top to allow the air to escape. With it at the bottom that won’t be possible

Oversite on my part.. looks like the guy at the part store screwed up! Which blows cause we bought and replaced the booster AND master cylinder (an additional 400 bucks we potentially didnt need to spend).. guess I'm going to visit them tomorrow... hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! Thank you.

Always best to ask here first before firing up the parts shotgun.

Now you can get her fixed.

Sometimes it just takes another set of eyes from afar.

The "proper" caliper has to be ordered in.. I called yesterday, they should have it today when I get off work. Will be a straight swap.. at least I know the other parts are new now lol.. should be fixed tomorrow... I'll let yous know if the issue is resolved with the new one (sounds like it should be)!

Thanks again... still shaking my head that NEITHER hubby or I noticed...

Let’s be real, missing that is dumb….and I’ve done things that dumb or worse, ha. I completely know that feeling, especially when you go down the yellow brick road….and it wasn’t needed. Happens to the worst of us, a laugh and head shake is about right.

Jokes aside, it’s good to know now, anytime the parts cannon is loaded, step back and ask here. I try not to replace parts on speculation anymore. A few pics with good lighting on this site, has been worth probably $6k+ in hours spent diagnosing if I was using $150 an hour as the rate. Just about every issue I’ve seen, someone here has seen, fixed and documented.

Been there though…

I agree with @cpwolf on the parts cannon. Look at it this way, the little extra spent on parts is the cheapest tuition you'll ever spend.

My LJ is by far the least expensive vehicle I have to repair. My other cars cost thousands per part so perfection and certainty is required. The bright side is every piece of your 20 year old braking system is no longer in danger of failing at any minute.

You got this girl.

UPDATE: proper caliper is on (and yes, i got a straight exchange from the part store), and brakes are bled and working.. still seem a bit squishy (could even just be the vehicle, first jeep so idk), so we might just do all the lines "just to be sure" then do a full gravity bleed. With that we will know our entire brake system is brand new and safe! I FiNALLY got to take her out driving.. kinda in love ❤️

If you have bigger tires you will never feel like you have adequate pedal. The bigger you go the worse it feels. In such case you will need to upgrade your brakes.
