I recently purchased a 97 TJ Sahara in the UK.

I have 2 keys but only 1 immobiliser and would like to get a spare.

How easy is it to get a second May & Schofield immobiliser in 2024?

Does it make it any easier because I have a working one already?

Thanks

Robbie

The fobs will be nigh on impossible to find. You certainly won't find one new, and even if you can get a used one it may not be possible to get it programmed to your vehicle. If it is possible it would require a dealer or Jeep specialist with DRBIII and the M&S security module. Possibly M&S may be able to do it but it would likely require the immobiliser module to be removed from the vehicle and sent to them. Might be worth looking up M&S website and contacting them to ask if they can help at all.

If your fob fails your bet option may be to source a non-security enabled PCM for a 97 from the US, and disconnecting the immobiliser before fitting any replacement.

Might also be worth looking up Birty Dastards Jeep Club on facebook and asking on there. Birty's have a forum too but it's down at the moment.

Thanks for this Jonny, I will reach out to M&S and see what they recommend first.

I'm trying be pro-active as when it fails (or is misplaced) I guarantee It will be at the worst possible timing (knowing me)

I've had my immobiliser seemingly fail when visiting Halfords at Manchester Fort shopping Center. I even went back in and bought new batteries to try. I just couldn't get the immobiliser to switch off. I ended up pushing the Jeep about 10ft out of the space I was in parked in and tried again. The immobiliser switched off when I tried it so there must be a mobile antenna or something interfering with the signal at that corner of the car park. My dad has had a similar thing happen at a petrol station in his Vauxhall.

I've had the LED indicator light up constantly a few times over the years. When it's done that I've generally just sat with the ignition on for a while, and trying long presses of the lock and unlock buttons. It's never failed to sort itself out and start working again.
