Howdy!

Today, while idling after driving on the highway for about an hour, the oil pressure gauge dropped all the way to zero and then bounced around for a minute. From a quick search on the forum, it sounds like the Oil pressure sending unit has failed. But Im having a hard time finding the correct sensor, and having an even harder time finding one from MOPAR.

Anyone know where I can get a new Oil pressure sending unit for a 2005 4.0L that is MOPAR or of similar quality that it will function correctly?

Thanks!

It's just a switch, the oil pressure gauge is a dummy gauge in your 05.

Standard Ign, Mopar, etc.

I replaced the sensor with a MOPAR sensor, but I still had the same problem as before. The gauge bounced around a bunch and hit "Zero" a few times.

I have ordered a second sensor to see if that fixes it, but I wanted to know if there were any other easy things I could try before handing it off to the shop if that second sensor does not fix the issue.

Get an oil pressure test gauge and verify you have good oil pressure.

The switch only has 2 modes, less than 6 PSI and 6 PSI or more. Less than 6, gauge is at 0. More than 6 it's at midrange and the PCM moves it around a little to make it look like a real gauge.

You can run the cluster self test by holding down the trip odo, turn key to On, release trip odo button and watch the show.

The Mopar I bought was made in China and lasted six months.

Standard Motor Products so far has been the only one that's working.

Really easy to have wiring issues and you absolutely need to verify if you have oil pressure with a gauge.

Looks like I can get a Standard motor products sensor locally tomorrow morning. That will be sooner than I can get a hold of a pressure gauge, so I'll try one of those sensors and see if that changes anything.

Thank you!

That same local store probably will have an oil pressure tester you can rent...

I'd still check your actual oil pressure.

It would be good to know what you have and establish a baseline for future diagnostics.

Same thing with fuel pressure.

I like to know where I am at so if things start going wonky I have a baseline to compare.
