Wife and I headed out this weekend to the Willamette National Forest, south of the Detroit Lake area.

Access was from Detroit Dam. The road system is wonderful. Well groomed gravel in the whole area. On a 1 -10 scale, the roads were mostly in the 2 to 3 range with occasional stretches of 4 or 5's on the spur roads. Easy-peasy, could have done them in a Volvo station wagon. No Jeep required.

The sights and camping spots were abundant and the views were spectacular!

Firewood and water were abundant and easy to get. Excellent camping spots were everywhere. Fuel and supplies were unavailable once you hit the back country. Maxed out the range on the little Jeep buzzing around. Had the extra gas can with me so it wasn't a problem.

Wife shot her new to her Winchester Timber Carbine, and liked it a lot. Enough that she's getting tailored loads for it. I'm thinking 265 grain hard cast at about 1,800 - 1,900 fps. Good for anything she'll ever run across.

We're going back for the four days over 4th of July.
