Soooo....Ordered the Moryde tailgate support today. Trail forged arms, steering linkage, and front track bar are in hand. Extended bump stops in hand to handle the 33s with 3" of lift. This'll do for a year or so before I can swing the SYE and go to a 3-1/2" spring lift that "fixes" everything.

When I haul my mountain bike the brake rotors cover the tail lights and it was making me nervous. Had this 3rd brake light from a 90s Suburban and it fit the curve of the roof perfectly. Not exactly plug and play but not rocket surgery to get it wired up. Yeah, drilled holes in the top. On Ebay: 3rd brake light

Not a fan of the Ring of Fire

I'm really leaning towards the 33s, but will the stock carrier and hinges support it? That's got to be 80 pounds of tire and wheel.

Blasphemy! The "ring of fire" is cool.
p.s. The stock carrier has been holding my 35" spare and steel wheel for 7 years. Take the weight off the hinges and all is good.

The tailgate on my '98 disagrees. There has been a 32" tire hanging on it since I bought the Jeep in 2004 and the hinges are still OK.
Dunno if other years are different.

I answer that way for a reason. 32” tire weights have quite a bit of variance, and it’s not a “given” that any 32” tire will be fine on stock tailgate hinges.

So I got the back end done over the weekend.....Shocks, spacers, springs, control arms, track bar, and end links. Netted exactly 4" of lift (from 2" BDS springs and a 3/4" spacer. I'm assuming it'll settle a bit. Moryde showed up today, but it's raining. Probably tackle that and the front end on Thursday. Wheels should be here tomorrow.

Helluva rake at the moment....

Is that what they call the "Virginia Squat"?

Federal mandate since.......1986, I think.

The federal mandate is for manufactures to sell cars with 3th brake lights, not for what consumers can do with their cars after purchase.

However, that is not the final word, because the states have a say.

The AZ DOT rules state, and I paraphrase, a vehicle only needs one operating rear light. However, if you have two or three lights, they all need to be working correctly.

So what I did, was just delete the third light all together so I have two operable (1 more than require) brake lights.
