Hitting Moab early September. I have both tops. Which would you use in Moab for a week and why?

I have one of the older Spiderweb shades on my TJ. I like the loose stretchy weave that lets just the right amount of light and air through. I prefer it to the newer spiderweb shade I have on my JL with a tighter woven material and much less stretch. They are both light years ahead of my old vinyl bikini top in all situations short of unexpected rain. Unless rain is in the forecast, spiderweb for me.

I have my spider web under my softtop creating a heat barrier. It works fantastic. The top is hot and radiates heat down, the spider web stops that heat and allows a bit of air to circulate causing a much cooler cab area. Windows are almost always out.

Hmmmm, maybe I can install the bikini over the Spider......

Right! This is why I'm asking. Last time I went I just had the bikini and that's what I used.

We were out during the heat dome in June. Was not too bad. Comfortable in the morning, the real heat - pushing 100 - did not hit until late afternoon. You know, when you are laying on your back welding on @MagnumV8 ‘s shock mount…🙂

What kind of heat are you expecting?

Forecast is mid 90s right now. I'm sure the rocks make it worser.

Same here, really love having it installed all the time. Though, Mine is actually an Alien Shade full length, could not beat the amazon deal...

You can! My current top acts as a safari top with all the windows removed, and its great. If I want, I can flip back the front portion and still have some shade while getting a pretty good breeze going.

I have the same one, but I removed it to install my TrekTop. Do the door surrounds get in the way of the bungees? I may put the mesh top back on if they don’t interfere.

I really don’t like the door surrounds, but they’re a necessary evil, I guess.

EDIT: I went out and in 10 minutes had my own question answered. The bungees work fine. I doubt the mesh was any harder to install with the top & surrounds than it was without. I think I'm going to like it.

Anyone that does this: ever throw stuff between the mesh and the top for storage above the rear seats? Looks ideal for hoodies & soft goods. Might blow out of there, don't know unless I try (or someone else already has).

I also run a webshade full time under my Trektop NX. I like having the shade with sunrider open or even if I pull the pins and pop off the entire Trektop off.

I haven't yet. I installed the bikini top over the Spider yesterday and will try this while in Moab.

I know you answered your own question, but Ill answer the second one.

I store the side windows up front between the top and the mesh when I am cruising in safari mode. The rear window, I roll up with the tailgate bar still attached to it, then slide it between the mesh and roll bar basically locking it in place. But thats because i have the Pavement Ends sprint top without the plastic corners in the windows.

Usually it stores a beach towel and a hoodie though.

Spiderweb will still let UV through, so expect to get some sun. I'm on team shaved head, so I still have to wear a hat for a good portion of the day. Hats make me hot, so at some level its about picking your poison.

This is why I put this up for debate to start with. I still have most of my hair...

I'll have the half door uppers installed, but mostly for the trip there and back. Planning to leave them in the condo garage.
