The news article says "the truck protected him". I friend of mine got rear ended on the interstate by a tractor trailer when he was stopped for traffic. He saw the truck coming and tried to get on the shoulder but was too late. His Silverado was struck by the semi and rolled several times into the woods near the interstate. He had only minor injuries and subsequently bought another Silverado.
