So I took a closer look at the stereo currently in there and am thinking it's not stock, has a CD player and such. It's making me wonder if this is a 2 DIN unit...any thoughts here?
What you have (stock) is commonly called a 1.5 DIN, although it isn’t an official head unit standard some automakers did produce head units that fell roughly in between single and double DIN in height (about 3 inches).
I've got this one in two of my Jeeps and I love it. No CD = less things to break that I wasn't going to use anyways. The Bluetooth is sold and I like having a backside USB so I can route it through the dash without drawing attention.

Android... which means all the apps you could want.
Netflix, Pandora, Google nav, plex, OBDII readers, yadda yadda
oh and plays dvd's and has 16gig internal and swappable sd card storage for movies and music.
That looks quite nice as well. That is a factory 1.5DIN unit. I just did a double din for my TJ and it turned out amazing. The new surround was 150, radio was around 300. While I was in there, i went ahead and replaced all of my speakers with Kicker 5.25's and my sub with a cheap pyramid off of amazon.
There's an idea. I don't think the subwoofer would fit in the enclosure facing forward tho. I'd have to put it in a different box.Since you have that trunk enclosure you could cut a hole for the speaker and mount it facing forward, basically turns your whole trunk into a sub-woofer box.
Whats your budget? I was in the same shoes as you new to me TJ and had the stock radio and all I wanted was to listen to stuff on my iPhone or whatever...So, the new (to me) jeep has a stock radio in it with a CD player, but no USB or audio inputs. I would like to upgrade to one that does - any suggestions for radios that would fit the default dashboard of the 06 Wrangler X?

I know this is an old thread but can anyone tell me the brand or where I may find this radio? I love how it looks factory.
Thanks, but now that I’ve seen the GUI that it has it’s a no go.... the interface looks crazy dated, like palm pilot days. Anyone have any good android or at least apple car play compatible headunits to suggest? Preferably cheap... I don’t care if it’s a no name one as long as its decently reliable.
