Stuck on highway at the moment with a smoking diff

The one and only time I had to use a towing service through AAA was a complete clusterfuck. My truck is AWD and I made it well known and that I needed a rollback. The contracted tow company took 3 hours to get a roll back to me just 10 minutes down the road from their station after sending two standard wreckers and one smart ass yankee just to determine that I had to have a rollback. The guy in the rollback finally made it and showed me where their order stated the truck was AWD and requested a rollback.

When my diff grenaded I talked to the driver after waiting 2 hours. The contracted companies deprioritize AAA calls because the make less money. So you get a tow when someone is available or at the latest the AAA contract says they can show up.

I've been told similar, but that's not what happened in my situation. The first truck showed up about 30 minutes in, but it took about 3 hours to get the requested rollback. The best part was the second truck that showed up, probably 15 minutes after the first left, was a smartass yankee who thought he knew better. He backed up to my truck and was about to hook it up when I stopped him. Then he proceeded to tell me my truck wasn't AWD, trying to talk down to me and only believed me after I showed him, then his tune changed and said he'd never seen one. I didn't bother to explain it was a custom order only option, and probably why he'd never seen one. When the rollback showed up, the driver showed me the printed ticket that stated rollback requested for AWD truck. Honestly, it's probably bottom-of-the-barrel tow companies contracting with AAA.

My experiences with AAA have been exactly the opposite. They typically arrive within a very reasonable time, and I end up shootin' the shit with 'em about cars and whatnot. Can honestly say that in the ten years or so that I've utilized AAA, I've never had a bad experience. 🤷‍♂️

I'm willing to give them another chance should the occasion arise. That one event was my one and only interaction with AAA and that particular tow company. I don't think AAA was at fault here since they relayed my message to the tow company, but the local tow guys, let's just say I was not impressed.

As for the tow-company itself, yeah, what you experienced definitely does not make for a good first impression. That would've soured me on 'em, too.

The times I've used them the drivers have always been great. The issue has always been getting the tow truck there

Mine too and in several different states. Here on Long Island we have a ton of tows and some pretty large ones that participate with AAA. One time the driver was given a call 15 minutes away from me and they wanted him to go their first. He took it upon himself to stop at me as he was going to literally pass me to get to the other call.
