I have mentioned these in another thread but I’m going to post this because I’m just so happy with the product.

Summit has left and right late-model seat foam on the market that feels far superior to the 2003 to 2006 factory foam.

How good does it feel? It is firm without being hard, It feels like you have made a significant suspension upgrade.

It makes you feel like the seat is inclined back just a little bit more and your position with the lumbar support of the back is so good that the upper foam feels better too.

We are not talking about a marginal improvement. This stuff is night and day different.

The installation takes a good hour to remove the seat and carefully remove the upholstery and change the foam and reassemble, per seat. This is a good juncture to put spray lubricant into any cable mechanisms and lubricate the pivots.

At this point I purchased five of these. I’m taking my low mileage LJ passenger seat foam and putting it in the TJ Rubicon with the new Summit foam on the driver side.

Then I’m putting complete new foam in the LJ on both sides.

The other two I got for a buddy who has selflessly helped me with the project and some other things.

You will sit a little taller but it will not be a disadvantage in anyway.

If I had to go on a very long journey in a TJ or it was my only choice of transportation I would insist on doing this foam swap.

Most 03-06 foam is about 4-5 on the comfort scale and most are broken down next to the drivers door. What Summit sells is equal to the feel of a 2024 vehicle, It makes the entire experience of driving these even better.

You need hog rings and pliers. They do provide rings but the ones we bought seemed to work better.

....another notable point is dealing with Summit is a very pleasant experience- Everything I have ever ordered I had within a couple of days at the longest. I would say they are a Crutchfield level supplier.

Tangent below- While we’re talking about good service:

I’ll take a minute to put in a plug for @mrblaine -He will knock you down getting product out the door. He’s not after your money, he’s out to solve your problem.

He is a good example of how small business can do things big businesses can’t. The same reason that a fly can walk on the ceiling and an elephant cannot- size.

Everyones post raving about the foam replacements keeps making want to just make the drive to Summit and grab them… my 01 driver seat feels like a metal folding chair…

Any specific hog ring plier or just pick one on amazon?

Well I was going to get a Dewalt that I saw at tractor supply because they seem to think things out pretty good...They were sold out and we picked one up and it looked pretty basic and it worked really good- You’re only doing about 8 rings per seat

I think the bend of the ring is key....If I was shopping I will try to get everything from the same manufacture.

You know what you just said really got my attention in the beginning the reviews on this stuff we’re just over the top.

One of our members that I know personally did it first and this guy is no pushover and he was really really happy with the results. @tr21triton .

I think when it gets down to it foam technology has advanced a lot in the last 20 years. And Chrysler was never on the cutting edge of across-the-board quality those days.

- when you do it you’ll see pretty quick that the stock material is just not really that good...At least 20 years down the road.

In a minute I’ll see if I can add a picture of the set that I got.

I was afraid these weren’t that great but it turned out they were very good- I think it’s important that the ring is designed by the tool manufacture.

I bought this set in 2017 when I put my heated seat pads in and I had no issues using them.

Speaking of heated seats, for those who have them and put the new Summit foam in, did you have any issues re-sticking the seat heaters to the new foam? Or getting them off the old foam for that matter?

Quick response!

Ive been spoiled with good seat foam from when I worked as a trim/electrical tech for GM. The newer Tahoes/Suburbans have really good seat foam.

Kinda hate that I sold my really nice SnapOn hog ring pliers but cant justify their markup and pricetags… might just grab the Dewalt ones if they are in stock at the TS down the road from me.

You've certainly got me thinking about these, and my seats are still in pretty good shape.

From here, the four white ones near the top.

About every one of these that I’ve had has been decently low mileage or really low mileage and the seat foam was in pretty good shape too....I just didn’t realize how inferior it was because all of these that I got it and felt the same.

My LJ Rubicon is about to turn 60,000 miles and I can’t wait to swap out the foam. It’s not really that the old foam has deteriorated as much in these I think as the new foam is just much higher quality.

I would say the factory foam is about what you would sit down on in the 60’s or early 70’s. Just sort of “meh”.

I would be willing to say that you won’t be as tired after an active day In one of these with the summit product. It made me really look forward to jumping in the jeep.

The factory stuff is like sleeping on a mattress that really isn’t high-quality- You’re going to feel orthopedically better supported with the new stuff.

My heated seat pads are on the seats and covered by my Bartacts- I stuck them to the back of the Bartacts.

Ah, ok. Thanks. Mine are on the foam, under the OEM fabric before I got Bartacts.

That’s really the way to go. Factory type install there.

Before the Bartact’s, low wasn’t quite enough and high would get too hot sometimes. After the Bartact’s, being on high is perfect.

Gonna tag the guy who works for summit and brought them to market @Kevo1966. Told you you’d like them :)

I took the rings off my old foam and put them on the new and then fed the bars through. really easy.

I'm going to trust @AndyG's review on these more than the "great" reviews from other people installing the dash speaker foam baffles and the "night and day" difference. I did mine and zero noticeable sound difference. 🤫 I might buy the driver's side foam and see. It has to be an improvement in the foam after jumping up into the seat for 7 years.

That was me- I did one seat and was like , holy cow....4 more arrived yesterday.

There is no way in the world I am dismantling a seat if it’s not gonna give me some real benefit.

At best the stock foam is bland.

@TheBoogieman, if you're seat foam is broken down, the difference is amazing. At over 250K mi, my 06 seat foam was so broken down the factory cloth was loose on it. After installing the new foam, the fabric is tight again and I'm sitting in the proper position in relation to the seatback again. Probably a couple of inches higher than the worn out foam. A lot more comfortable.

Thats where my seat foam is at after only 115K, but I assume the PO wore them out a ton by sliding off the bolster to get out. (She was Maybe 5' tall)

Gives me a reason to remove the 2" seat riser they installed, My head rubs against the alien sunshade I installed and irritates the living shit out of me every morning.

Time to make a trip out to Summit on Saturday, I dont need free shipping if its only a 30 minute trip to pick it up in person.
