Tablet mount

That long arm length sure makes me think it'd shake and move around too much on a rough bumpy trail. A friend has a short very rigid aluminum design that clamps to the glove box grab bar with no movement/bounce at all on bumpy trails. If I ever get a tablet that's how I'll mount mine.

I'll know soon enough Jerry. There's a couple of high speed trails in my AO that bounce the faceplate off my radio.

Right now I'm more worried about where the base plate is attached. I sticky taped it to the side of the center stack. That's much flimsier than expected. If the arm works as expected, I'll fab up a bracket to tie into the sheet metal under the dash. The mount itself is pretty stable. No movement on the street so far.

Got out on the trails today for about five hours. The mount is rock solid. Love it!

How do you like it so far? Mine seems pretty legit and surprisingly the double sided tape is holding up well.

I've only driven with it for like 7 minutes. I installed it over my lunch break, but I used 3 screws in the opposite you did. I do like it quite a bit. I do think I'd like to get some different of these ball mounts for some other options. It was a hard choice between my truck and Jeep. Ultimately I'll probably get one for the truck and one for the gf car or something. I need to go off-road some, but when I'm off-road I go slow so it shouldn't be too bad.

I keep moving the base around to try different mount points. It seems to make a difference in how solid the mount is. I might even give them a call and order up some different arm lengths to play with. So far this is working out well.

Right now I can't splurge on much of anything. I've got my Gobi rack due in the next month or 2 (hopefully) and I've got some truck projects and mud tires for the truck I need to add. When I save for big stuff I try to just stop spending money as much as possible.

Also I've got a thousand projects I need to work on, but so far I think this tablet mount works perfectly well. I kind of wonder if a few other mounts I have are compatible.

Lol...Right!? So many projects and so little time and money. That Kubota swap keeps floating to the top, but then a glance at the project budget spreadsheet puts another nail in the coffin. Believe me, I sympathize.

I think the Kubota project will be one to keep up pretty high. However I would give myself plenty of time to do it. Also if that swap gets popular you can probably triple the cost of those engines so you may want to get it sooner than later. The Kubota stuff will be really cool though and I love what Grant is doing with his project. One of my favorite ideas is the doubler part. If I had thought of that then, I would have at least entertained the idea of making room for the doubler, but I can't say that I would have gone for it though, because I do like the Atlas. Though the Atlas is expensive, it's built well and a doubler would have forced me to do a bunch of custom work for the motor install, which I just don't have the time for.

We used to be able to buy the box vans with 4bts for like $500, the last one that sold locally was listed at $6k. We have so few diesels in the US that it's crazy. As fun as the swaps are, I'll probably have to just import my next diesel powered vehicle and rebuild it with mostly stock components.

My next big Jeep project will be the Super 35 kit with ARB locker and regear, but I've got a $11k list of stuff, but hey everything will still be cheaper than a new Rubicon and I won't have the tax and insurance man pick my pocket all the time.

Mine is still holding up, but I haven't tested it much. The mount feels strong, but where I mounted mine on the dash, it will vibrate and bounce a lot. I'm not sure what else to compare it to, because everything bounces and vibrates in the Jeep when off-road. On road I'm still just using my phone to navigate, which seems pretty good.

I really never use a tablet while driving. I've used it when parked. I think it's gonna be about your mounting point and vibrations to that point more than anything unless you have something like a gimbal maybe.

I hear you about not using while driving. I'd be using it as a map source for when I stop.

I think I would prefer where @StG58 mounted his, although it's hard to picture what it would look like.

It needs to mount to some place more substantial than I've got it mounted, but even as is, it's not horrible, just not a good long term solution. The mount itself is a well made unit. I've got more stuff to mount on my dash so I'll try to think of this more when I'm integrating my SP-9100 HD switches.

The double sided tape was a long term fail because of dust intrusion, but a set of small bolts and washers fixed the issue. Still works well. Minimal vibration. The mount is a keeper.

I wanted to follow up with what I went with: Schosche SBMM (Spin Bike Magic Mount). I didn't want to block the vents or head unit. If you rotate the clamp a little, the glove compartment still opens fine. It is blocking the passenger air bag, but I would only be using the mapping app at lower speeds on the trail. I haven't had it on rough roads yet, but the magnet seems very strong. In fact, I had to really pull on it to remove it from the mount. It comes with 2 metal plates, 1 smaller for a phone and a larger one that I used on the tablet. I already had a metal plate behind my phone's back cover and it worked great as-is.

I was thinking the same. I scoured the site and saw the roll bar mount...tablet could be mounted just to the right of the rear mirror and swing up when not on the trail.
