I put a gate off a 2000 I believe on an 04. Fit fine but the lock cylinder was smaller on the older gate. I had to file the hole out to get the original lock cylinder to fit.

I’m also in the process of replacing my tailgate from previous owner backing spare tire into something. My Jeep is an 03 and the tailgate I’m putting on it is like an 01 if I remember right. My tub is bent by the tailgate hing enough to keep it from working. Might look and make sure yours isn’t tweaked as well.

upon closer inspection im thinking the tub is tweaked not a tailgate problem witch sucks because im in to this tub for $900 100 for the sandblasting $400+ for the raptor liner and consumables plus my time

That doesn’t answer my question. Will the gate fit in the hole squarely without any hinges mounted to it or the latch in it. Post a picture of the way it fits in the hole so the entire gate is visible

Yes tailgate fits in w/o sttiker or hinges finally got hinges off tailgate had to drill out all 4. ALL jeep engineers should have there balls STOMPED ON FORCEFULLY AND REPEATEDLY!!!!!!!!! what were they thinking putting aluminum hinges on it

If the gate fits in the hole without hinges or striker and the gaps are even all the way around it’s an adjustment issue.

Bolt the hinges to the body because there is no adjustment on the body side. Fold up two small pieces of cardboard and put them on the sill of the tub. Place the gate on the two pieces of cardboard and center it from side to side. Bolt the hinges to the gate. There should be about 1/8 gap across the bottom and 3/16 on each side. Then put the latch in.

I could be wrong but my understanding is that the early hinges are different (don't know by how much) than the later hinges. Which hinges are you using?
