**Post #1 will be updated regularly**

This is for Team CO and those wanting to join on the upcoming Moab trip. Our schedule is below. We will be traveling on Friday from Colorado via I70 and staying in Green River for the night. We have our own recommendations listed below; this is not to scare anyone or say you cant come with, but we do not want to be hung up on the the trail all day winching and and fixing things. Do your own research on these trails. Stuff happens, we understand, and we'll obvioulsy be there to help out if anything goes wrong, but please make sure your rig is up to par, you have recovery equipment/tools, and you know what you are getting into.

Saturday April 24 (group capped)
Meet 8am at Little Lion's Back neaLJr Sand Creek Entrance. Pay entrance fee. Depart for trail at 8:30 sharp.
  1. Fins and ThingsFins and Things

  2. Hells Revenge
    https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/549-hells-revenge
-Hotel in town.

Recommendations--For both Fins/Hells we're going to ask that at a minimum you have 33s, one locker and recovery points. Raised skids is also a plus. We'll be all day (8+ hours) so bring plenty of food and water.

Sunday April 25

Meet at 7:30am at the Gemini Bridges Trailhead. Depart for trail at 8 am sharp. Metal Masher is roughly a 6 hr trail, Rusty Nail is about 3 hours. Hence the early start time.
  1. Metal Masher

  2. Rusty Nail
    https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/1831-rusty-nail
-Hotel in town.

Recommendations--For Metal Masher we're going to ask that at a minimum you have 33s, front/rear lockers and recovery points. Raised skids is also a plus.

Rusty Nail Recommendations--35s, front/rear lockers, winch, recovery points, rocker armor. Raised skids is also a plus. Both of these trails will be all day, so bring plenty of food and water.

Monday April 26

We are thinking about going big and running a lot of trails Monday. Because of this, we will be meeting at the Pritchett Canyon Trailhead at 7am (Hwy 114 and Pritchett Trailhead), departing at 7:30 sharp. We will start making our way back towards Colorado this day as well.
  1. Pritchett Canyon
    https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/589-pritchett-canyon
  2. Entrada Bluffs Road
    https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/1302-entrada-bluffs-road
  3. Top of the World
    https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/607-top-of-the-world-utah
  4. Rose Garden Hill
    https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/591-rose-garden-hill
  5. Onion Creek
    https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/579-onion-creek
  6. Gateway/Castleton
    https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/1305-gateway-castleton-route
Camp on trail.

Recommendations. Pritchett, according to Trails Offroad, is rated a 9-10 on the difficulty scale. Because of this, we are requiring 35s, front/rear lockers, winch, recovery points, and armor.

Entrada Bluffs--Easy trail. 31s and an open/open configuration will be fine.

Top of the World--33s and recovery points. Open/Open should be fine.

Rose Garden — 33s, recovery points, and at least one locker.

Onion Creek-- 31s, open/open is fine.

Gateway/Castleton--I dont believe anyone will be joining us on this since it is our route to get back home. That said; 31s, open/open is fine.

Again, a long day for us so bring plenty of food and water. All trails combined we are looking at probably a 12-13 hour day.

Tuesday April 27
We will continue on the Gateway-Castleton trail and merge with 141. We will take 141 into Grand Junction, CO. From there, we will make our way to:
  1. 21 Road
    https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/196-21-road
Recommendations--35s, front/rear lockers, winch, and armor. If we come away unscathed and pride still intact, we will head home that afternoon/evening via I70.

NOTES:

As @Dino - KX6D and @jjvw said--Everybody meeting at one place and then pairing off WILL be a cluster fuck. A trip like this needs serious planning and coordination. This is our effort to do so. So please follow the instructions and know the requirements and times. If you are interested in joining us, post up. Otherwise we wont know and if you're late to the meeting spot you'll be alone and/or need to catch up. We also have no idea when we will make it to the second, third, or fifth trail of the day. So anyone who joins us is with us for the day or they need to figure out for themselves how and where to meet up with others. Consider everything above chiseled in stone at this point. If something changes, this post will be updated on a regular basis. Not trying to be a fun-sponge, but trying to make this trip efficient as possible. We are not going to be the only folks in Moab...

We prefer early morning runs. It will be fairly busy in Moab so in order to get ahead of the larger groups we'll hit the trails likely before 9am. The trails listed above are a bit more technical than others, so we'll let those with 33s and lockers join the group. We are going to try and limit our group to about 8-10 jeeps max for the sake of time. If we end up with a few more, we'll manage. Raised skids will definitely be beneficial, but we have a pretty experienced crew and can spot if needed. Begrudgingly, we all opted for GMRS radios. We still have our CBs and will likely be communicating on those too. GMRS and CB info below:

Also, we're the best team that is not a team...

My only question is whether Team CO-Red-Shift-We-Eat-The-Shit-Out-of-Pretzels-EtAl is adhering to the TJFest comms regulations.

Our CBs check the requirement list.

"GMRS radio, GMRS capable handhelds, HAM radio with MARS mod (to access GMRS frequencies), or a CB radio (I strongly encourage a GMRS capable setup as the range is far superior than CB and many of us including myself won’t be using CB)."

Travel East on I-70

We're an early morning group, we'll hit the trails likely before 9am. We're camping Sat-Monday.
Looks like a great lineup. You guys have one solid packed Monday. -

If you can fit it, poison spider was a great trail. It could be made longer by adding golden spike and gold bar. Poison spider alone is a loop that ends with a view of the whole city of Moab.

For you guys buying radios... If you go to Amazon and buy that shitty Baofeng UV-5R for $35.00, I'll program it for free In Moab with all the VHF/KOH race frequencies, weather frequencies, GMRS channels, FRS channels, MURS channels, it will display YOUR NAME when you turn it on and as a special bonus, if Team Hyphen wants to use PL tones to secure their own private channel for its ELITE users, I'll program that in too! All programming is free! Same goes for the Rugged Radios V2 and V3 radios.

For Jeep to Jeep on the same trail a small handheld is all you need. If you want a little more range, get an external mag mount antenna and stick it on your fender. It will screw right into the handheld if you get the right cable. Go one more step and get the hand mic and you can zip tie it to your rollbar. If you don't want to take it out every night get a power cord.

A more expensive mobile radio with more power can be purchased as well, but if you are not a radio guy, just get the handheld.

Just when I thought that this group had topped out with the max possible level of gayness, look who shows up and takes it to the next level and with authority.

Who is this guy? Can we trust him out in the desert?

Absolutely! ...if you want to restrict yourself to GMRS (uhf) frequencies only. Thats not a bad thing mind you and those Midlands are probably really nice radios, but if you want all the VHF race frequencies too, you'll need a different radio.
Good to know. I gotta think this through. I don't really want to spend money on a new radio, but also don't want to buy too cheap and lose out

Here is the thing with the $35.00 Baofeng... you can afford to lose out on this one! They work great for a long time if you take care of it and when they don't you can still use it to chock your tire during trail repairs. Win Win!

I suspect the Midland is a much superior quality radio but is restricted to just GMRS as CB is to CB. If everyone in your wheeling group is running CB, you buy a CB. If its GMRS, you buy GMRS. These Baofengs do ham (VHF and UHF), business (VHF and UHF), weather, train, marine, MURS, race radios, FRS, GMRS, FM radio stations, some military stuff, etc.

If you are serious you could buy a Yaesu FT-60r and I'll modify it to do everything the Baofeng does, but better. I'll program it too. All for free. I'll even give you the programming file and you can buy your own software and cable and change it whenever you want.

Also, I'll have my analyzer with me and willing to check out anyone's antenna system and tune it if possible. This includes CB, ham, GMRS, and race radios.

If you have questions, and to save thread space on boring and gay radio talk, just message me or text to 562-665-6286.
