The ‘Grand Tourer’ TJ Build

Rancho 5000x and H&R 35mm lift springs now in. What a difference they’ve made! It’s at the perfect height for me now. High enough to clear ruts made by defenders but not so high that it effects street performance. And the ride is a dream. Million times better than the stock set up.

Will be really interested to hear how you find the Rancho shocks. I know they are very popular on the far side of the Atlantic, but have not seen any feedback from anyone in the UK.

Had an unexpected bit of work come up when I was changing the door seals. Found a lot of rust on the lower inner lips of the doors (from the dodgy seals the PO used). It was a lengthy job to do it thourpughly but very happy with the results and now I have peace of mind it won’t come back.

Started by hitting with the wire pad and sander to take it down to bare metal. Then have it a coat of Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 Rust Coverter paint to get rid of anything left over and protect it. Then used the Chipex Paint Matching Kit to finish it. Hit it with a bit of polish and it’s as good as new.
