Had an XJ in college, and it was always one of my favorite Jeeps. Say what you want about the current Cherokee, but it would be (will be?) sad to see the name go.

Maybe the modern day cherokee no longer is the kind of vehicle that symbolizes the great American outdoors.

I no longer think or the new cherokee as the original. The JKU kind of took the place of the 4 door dual solid axle jeep.

Imagine if our beloved Jeeps were only known as "Civilian Jeep X" or, "CJ" for short. Who's gonna buy a "CJ-5"?!

Of course, over time they might have to come up with other letters with more ambiguity as to meaning... like YJ, TJ, LJ, MJ, XJ, etc.

The names don't add anything. In fact they muddy the waters in my opinion. If I tell a guy I drive a Wrangler, that only narrows it down to 1 of 7 vehicles.
