The good news thread

better throw some more stuff in there before your subconscious decides it's time to kick it!

Not sure I have any real advice though. At 40 I feel like some of my bucket list has been deferred because I still have young kids that occupy most of my time. Seeing my dad at 73 completely over traveling makes me worry that by the time I have the freedom to do some of the things on my list, I won't have the passion for them anymore, or maybe even the physical ability.

yea that's my concern, like most people I've spent my life shooting at multiple targets simultaneously so there's always a reason to keep charging ahead. With no significant target to aim at I'm not sure what the motivation will be. I guess retirement can fit that description but that's not so much a bucket list item as it is a natural progression that'll happen no matter what, but the closer that day gets the less appealing it seems to be getting. I'll have to ponder this whole thing for a while & see what comes to me.

so I got something back in the bucket 😁, I've been working out since I was in middle school to varying degrees, but always very consistent. I tailed it off a bit when I hit my mid-50's in terms of duration & quality of the workouts, so I've decided it's time to reinvest in a more specific routine aimed at strength training, flexibility and maintenance, trying to fend off the rickety old man syndrome that's coming for all of us unless we do something about it. Girlfriend is a yoga instructor so I've done some stretching type stuff with her, and will be doing more as I go forward.

I've always gone solo, not a fan of gyms & machines, preferring body-weight exercises & traditional weights. A few weeks ago I began working out with a personal trainer, have learned a ton, still have a ton more to learn, but I will be segueing to full solo, I don't need a trainer for motivation or consistency. To that end I made my first equipment purchase in many years, realizing I needed a cable/pulley system to do a lot of the things I've learned & really enjoy. I also wanted a higher bar to dead hang and such, so the rack was a perfect addition to my existing equipment. It arrived last week, spent a good few hours this weekend assembling it, and we're off to the races.

The horizontal bar up near the top is my original K-Mart 110lb weight-set bar from 78, it's been hanging from chains on the other side of the room, I still need it for pull-ups & chin-ups as the bar on the rack is only a few inches from the ceiling so I can't get full range of motion using it for that, it'll be used for dead hangs & related hanging exercises.

After 9 years as a stay at home mom, a grueling 21 month program with no summer breaks, which itself followed 2 semesters of prerequisites, my wife just passed her ARRT exam and now gets to put "R.T. (R)" next to her name. She has a phone interview tomorrow for a job that will train and transition her into mammography which is the modality she wants to work in and then she'll take another test and add an (M).

It's been a tough 3 years for us all... it's a little surreal for her right now but me and the boys are just happy to have her back from the constant studying.

Sounds like a celebratory TJ for the wife is in order.

that's awesome, went through a similar thing way back when, she was in school for early childhood education before we had kids, ended up staying home until they were both in elementary school then started teaching, our idea was to mimic a stay at home mom schedule-wise by working full time with summers & holidays off. That was a great gig.

Congrats to her!!

I've been reading your posts on this for the last three years and know the commitment you both endured for this to happen. Congrats! More Jeep money...

First time roller skating since I broke my ankle back in February...roller skating. It went well. I didn't fall or break anything else, but it may be time to retire my 1994 Roces Amsterdam inlines. They are hard boots and an internal seam runs right across the scar where my deltoid ligament got reattached. It's kind of ouchie.

I'll try my quad speeds skates next week but keep it out of Overdrive for a while longer. It gets harder to heal when you're pushing seventy.

Hockey has started for Owen and soccer for Eli. Owen's team is 3-0 and Eli is 0-3. Owen's team had a blowout last week, 15-0, where Owen got his first Hat Trick. They had a double header today. Owen was scoreless, but they won the first game 5-3. Second game, they won in a shoot out, 5-4.

I haven't seen any of Eli's games yet but I'm not hearing good things about his teams' coach. Not so much inept as scatterbrained.

And...

new to me K2 Inline skates.

Been too long since anyone posted here…
My daughter’s Bat Mitzvah (Jewish coming of age) is in 3 weeks. It’s traditional todo a charity project for a cause or group the “soon to be adult” is passionate about. My daughter loves the ocean and for the last few months has been collecting supplies for the Georgia turtle rescue group on Jeklly Island. This weekend we loaded up the kids to hand deliver the supplies.

I had to reread that, at first my brain thought you said "She wants an '84 Wagoneer though, I'm getting her an Accord"... :D

hahaha yeah that wouldn't go over well.

We did sell the Accord shortly after I posted that. She's about a month in at her new job. There was a little hazing in the first couple of weeks but things have settled down and she's enjoying it.

We're clearing out about another acre of woods (out of our 4.3 acres) and getting started on finishing the space above our garage, and then I'll be on the hunt for the Wagoneer. She likes the idea of me doing an LS or hemi swap on it but she doesn't want a years-long restoration project, so it'll take some coin to find one that isn't rusted out.
