The post-build thread

You still at 29 stumps? We should link up and go wheeling!
been reading your build thread, although I'm only half way through looks like you did a really nice job!
The corps brought you out here? Same, up for orders this summer. Next time we head out to the trails I'll give you a shout. Really want to knock out the front outboard job this month and I might have to replace some axle seals as well.

hoping to hit up KOH this year again as well!

Since I can't find alot of my old material I'll jump into the outboard job. I actually bought a welder (always wanted to) for this project and after 2 months of off and on practice, dove into the job.

I purchased a Hobart Handler 210MVP, gas bottle, and all the other trimmings to get it started.

purchased a cart shortly after.

I've talked alot with MrBlaine about the outboard job for a while, had the opportunity to see several nice rigs with it done, and had already read every piece of Internet literature I could find on it. Despite all this it is an extremely intimidating project. I set aside a 96 hour libo period and aimed to get it all done. Overall I had about 60 hours in the project as I was learning as I went and second guessing every move I made.

I had several hours of sitting there cup of coffee in hand just staring at it.

I was determined to have the towers identical on both sides. In the end I wound up less than half of a degree off on either axis.

making the first cut was intimidating. I probably had the towers tacked in and cut back out at least 6 times on either side, checking everything and cycling the suspension at every turn.

Nice work man! I’ve never welded anything like that and my free time is extremely lacking as well as the skill set so I’m getting the outboards done as we speak. Really nice job!

I think after doing it the first time I could cut my time in half if I had to do it again. Still, I've heard 800 to 1k bucks an end just in labor. after doing it myself, i think that's more than reasonable.

It was the first time I've welded anything like it too lol. Trust me I was second guessing whether i was in over my head for most of the process.

Your gonna love the difference it makes, especially after tuning.

finally got the new camper on the new truck for a test drive, thought about picking up the car hauler and the jeep as well but we were limited on time that day.

this was taken where we have to check out the key for the storage lot, obviously no need for a hotel in this bad boy.

Cant wait to hook up the hauler and take our first trip with the new rig. even with 4k pounds on it this thing will pull you into your seatback, doubt ill even feel the jeep back there

Whoa whoa you just bought a welder and made welds like that? Wtf!?
youtube and a "welding for dummies" book. 😅 I am still learning. The weave or wave pattern looks nice but its really bullshit. It should look uniform and flat with no waves. Its so hard to keep a steady hand. a little intentional movement is easier than being perfectly steady even if its not as structurally sound.

before I did the jeep i built a table. It was a good experience but i definitely went way way overkill. I don't really need a table like this...

Oh man I do need a table like that. What thickness did you use for the top?
