The Forgotten War, the Aleutian Campaign, 1942.
My dad, Theodore C. Shatto flew the P-40.

The forgotten war was the event which inspired my interest in world geography. To think, Alaska and Prince Rupert were realistic routes to bring WW2 to mainland North America.

WW2 definitely opened the world to development. I doubt the Alaska Highway would be built yet without the threat of invasion. And air travel ? WW2 built the airstrips which made air travel common around the world.

Great photo, thanks for sharing.
