So where's the rest of the story, pictures and videos?

And yeah...knock the chips off, spray out the diff with a can of brake cleaner and pop that back in...how's the ring look?

How far did you have to walk? =)

I wish there was a fun story behind it. I just traded for the jeep over the weekend, I knew it needed gears as it was coming with them. Previous owner got most of the broken pieces out. The ring looked good surprisingly. Maybe they changed it only? Weirdā€¦
Diff is a ltd so Iā€™m waiting on a rebuild kit so I can reassemble.

My pinion did the same thing.

I think the pinion bearing failed...then all the oil pumped out...got dry, seized and grenaded.

Improper setup can do it.

Full send can do it.

Haā€¦I know..the ring is good or betterā€¦didnā€™t really look too close and the bearings were good.

Flush everything out good and feel out the entire rotation of the bearing...just a little metal will do bad things. I replaced all mine when my pinion grenaded... didn't trust they didn't have some damage.

Thanks for the advice, I have new gears and full install kit too, doing wheel bearings and seals while itā€™s apart.
The axle will be getting washed out a few times as I am paranoid about stuff like that.
