I got a 98 jeep wrangler tj 2.5l and I did the clutch around 2 months ago because it went bad and when I installed the new clutch everything worked fine drove it and was butter smooth up until on day it started making a ticking sound not coming from the engine but somewhere in the transmission and clutch I dropped the trans and saw the pilot bearing was behind the flywheel not on the actual flywheel. I replaced my flywheel and pilot bearing and got a warranty for my whole clutch kit and still makes the same ticking sound just put it together last night and now the clutch won’t even engage I can shift all 5 gears without the clutch and won’t get the car to move. I tried checking my transfer case linkage and checked to see if I could throw it in to 4wd but the lever is super smooth and doesn’t have that little roughness or sound when you kick it into 4wd or 4L. I did also replace the fluid in the transmission with redline mt-90 but I don’t think that would make it start ticking like that. Transmission input shaft does also have slight play. Any ideas or tips on this? iv been stuck on this for a while i dont know where to even start again. Picture below is how i found the pilot bearing the second time i took apart the transmission when i heard that ticking sound

Sounds like the transfer case might be in neutral. Check the linkage. If you are not feeling the notchy transfer case shifts, your issue is probably there and the linkage might be broken or disconnected. And the clicking could be the transfer case range hub lightly whizzing gear teeth if it's just barely on the cusp of engaging into 4L or something like that.

Might try that as of now because the first time it started making a ticking sound it was drivable up until it would struggle to leave in any gear and I tried throwing it into 4wd the first time it started ticking and it would seem to struggle a lot more when trying to move I have already replaced all the clutch components twice
