Tinted Windshield

is this just ceramic coat for paint? same thing? id like to do this.

No, it is a film. Same type of film that would be used on side windows, only clear.

If you do not have ceramic film on your windows you need to get it. There is zero comparison between normal tint and ceramic tint. Ceramic tint also comes in the darker shades if you want that.

Do the cop cars follow the same laws? I know here majority of the cops here have almost painted windows they are so dark. The last time I was pulled over for a tint issue on my side windows, I fought the ticket in court. It got dropped because I had a picture of the officers car and requested a tint percentage on his car to the judge. The judge basically called the cop a hipocrite and tossed the ticket. The court fee was even waived.

Only the K9 units here have rear dark tinted windows. No tint up front.

They put an exemption in the law for people with a prescription. Likely it’s for the assholes that wrote the laws friends or themselves.

I had my side windows tinted darker than legal here. I paid a tint shop to do it, and he said he couldn't give me a receipt because it was illegal for him to do it. He told me I could tell my doctor my eyes are light sensitive, then take a note from the doctor to DMV and they would put that on my license, Not worth all that hassle to me.
p.s. My half door windows had tinted plastic. I got pulled for them and told the cop I bought it that way and there was no way to remove it.

Here they tint everything but the windshield, I'm guessing part of that is all the stuff they attach to the windshield.

With my tinted windshields I can't attach anything to it as far as a suction cup, sticker, plate pass without risk of messing up the tint.

I did the windows on the full doors.. I think it is 30%.
It's the only thing I have done to the TJ that I fully regret doing.

Why? Are your "old eyes" night vision failing you? ;)
p.s. Easy enough to pull it off and use rubbing alcohol to remove the glue residue.

I guess...
Aesthetically they are great.
Can't see worth a hoot at night.

I agree. My wife and I got ran off the road a few months back by a guy in a brand new Chevy Silverado with the limo tint on his windows. He pulled out on a two lane highway right when we were about to pass him. Thank God I still have some of my motocross racing reflexes. I believe he couldn't see us with tint that dark at 6am in the morning. She had me catch up with him so she could roll down the window and flip him off. She yelled, "can you see this Muther F#%Ker." I have no idea why I'm with a person with such a bad attitude. 😇

This has turned in to quite an interesting read with everyone's thoughts on the matter. Like everything, there's a million way to go on this subject. I personally prefer the 20% on the side windows and 35% on the entire windshield. Again, where I am, law enforcement doesn't hassle you strictly for tint alone. I have an appointment to get this done in October and with the ceramic tint the local guy uses, it really hasn't impeded seeing out of the windshield in my experience. Long gone are the days of me being able to see out of anything with 5% tint tho! LMAO

That's why Va has laws about how dark the side windows can be and a definite

Over half of the vehicles over in Allegheny County don’t even have windows in them to tint🤣🤣

I feel sorry for any cops that have to walk up on a tinted window vehicle.
I couldn't imagine the anxiety and stress of not knowing what's inside.

I'll take my non tinted windows with both hands on the steering wheel when they walk up,thank you very much.

Getting shot isn't on my to do list. Hands on the wheel and being polite and respectful goes a long way to having a civil and sometimes pleasant conversation with cops.

There have been times when a speeding ticket turned into popping the hood and a hot rodding discussion instead.

I put clear ceramic on the windshield of this

which is 2.5x more surface area than a TJ windshield, and sloped at ~25°. I think it helps with the Texas sun.

For the Jeeps just wear sunglasses; you need all the light you can get after dark. Seeing an animal or pedestrian just a bit sooner can make all the difference.

I've thought about trying a clear or light ceramic tint like that on my windshield, mostly to knock down the summer heat and protect the interior a little. I also have two of those Civics, which get supper hot sitting in the sun. Did it actually help with interior temp? When I put 30 on my rear glass and 50 on my sides, it reduced cabin temp 10-15 degrees on a 90 degree day, but those windshields still let in some heat.

It's best to leave your dark tinted windows rolled up and leave just a crack to say "Am I being detained" through.

Or roll all the windows down so the officer has no reason to feel threatened.
