Tire indecisiveness has got me all out of whack

I mentioned this in another thread but I thought I'd do it again. Whatever you buy ... CHECK THE DATE CODES! I bought set of Duratracs for my MJ about a month ago. The date codes were from 2014, 2015 (2 of them) and 2017! o_O The shop was a shocked as I was and didn't hesitate to replace them. I got 31x10.5x15s which probably aren't the fast movers they used to be so there may be a lot of old stock sitting in the warehouses.

So true. I've had my Mickey Thompson MTZ tires for 6 years. Date codes are 2013 on all of them.

my question now becomes is there much difference between the mastercraft Courser MXT and STT Pro? Treads are nearly identical. both C load, 6 ply, Obviously the "athsetic favor" wins on the STT's,

which is next to impossible to stop if you buy online. Believe it or not, mine show 2018. I never looked until they told me about the separation and I assumed these things were 10 yrs old

Are you going to do anything to the Jeep to accommodate the 33s, or just stuff them under there?

well, to be honest, i like the look of a 12.5" wide tire on 8" rim. I honestly don't care about 33". just tough finding a 32x12.5x15 in these few brands i'm interested in. And not that it does much, but there is a 2"BL on it.

Are you talking about the stt pro or the st max? The max is their hybrid tire. The stt pro is very much a mud terrain style tire but geared more towards rocks when you read their brochure on them. The tread design is similar to bfg but I would say the Cooper pro is geared less toward mud and more towards rocky terrain.

I have ran the stt pro before and they worked good for the muddy rock trails I ran fwiw.
I just put my second set of coopers on, I had the Maxx they have been discontinued in the 35x12.5x15 ( I dont know about other sizes) I went with the pro. Very happy with the performance and lack of road noise

I don't mean to send your thread side ways but, the little bit of online research I did (mostly other forums) lead me to believe that tires sitting in a dark warehouse for a few years before you get them isn't a big problem. I did this a year ago after buying set, also Duratracs, for my LJ. Coincidentally they were 2 years old when I got them and they've been fine.

You just need to decide what is more important: Wheeling or street driving. If wheeling, then go with an MT. Otherwise, the Cooper STT Pro sounds like a good fit. It's not a real MT, it's a hybrid tire. I ran those for a few years and they gripped well on the rocks and handled well on the street too.

The STT pro is a mud tire, not sure where you are getting it’s a hybrid

The issue isn’t a two year old tire, it is when you get to 3 years on the vehicle the tire is 5 years old.

I think it comes down to what’s acceptable. I’ve been told that a couple of years in a warehouse isn’t as bad as them being outside in the sun.

Your chances of getting a set that were made a few months before you bought them isn’t great. It’s hard to even get a set with the same date code.

If I wanted to make this more difficult, the equivalent of a 32x12.5x15 tire is 318/68/15. Since there are no 32x12.5's around, would I be nuts to try a tire like this? Although this is a 72, so not a good example. .(I haven't researched on other options, just saw this one first (

That's how I feel about them both. Look pretty much the same, Cooper makes them both and I can get the MXT tires cheaper. I found some for $224 each (35x12.50x15).

I personally avoid "off brands". I've had Mickey Thompson MTZ tires on most of my Jeeps. I've tried BFG KM2 MTs, Goodyear MTRs, Dick Cepek Extreme Country, Kenda Klever MTs and some cheap Mud Claw tires. I liked the DC tires and I got a $200 instant rebate on all four 33s at the time.

Makes sense, I always am one to research "too much". after reading here on the impact 32 to 33 and 11.5 to 12.5 has on my overall quality of driving with 3.73 gears, I'm sticking with 32x11.5x15. My jeep is quite quick and I don't want to lose that feel

Just an aside, but this has got to be one of the best looking Cherokees I’ve seen

That is all

so where do these discounts and rebates come from? I've always just bought from online stores, Gigatires, tirerack, etc. and never gotten a rebate in decades. Never looked for them either tho. Is it best to go to a local Discount Tire and make deals happen face to face?

I surf the net for rebates and discounts. I'm poor.

Good call. I'd be worried about running a 33x12.5 with only a 2" BL. It wouldn't take much to get interference from your fenders, even with just street driving as you alluded to in your other thread.

Did you purchase local? How does the mfg credit work? Automatic? Or does the customer have to pry it out of the vendor.

HaHa. I get it with prying the credit out of the vendor! This was a local shop that was purchased recently by Big Brand Tires. Their website allows you to see the tire price and then the cost of 5 tires out the door including, any credits, tire recycling, force balancing...... When I went to pay, sure enough the credit was not there, so he re did the invoice and I said it was still wrong. I whipped out my computer printout showing what I was paying based on their website and he agreed and re did the invoice. (I had also confirmed the price twice over the phone). Geez, seems like nothing is easy anymore when purchasing stuff.
