Given that it came out of 4.0 auto with Dana35, it can be shortened only to fit 4.0 auto with Dana 44.
I thought about this option, because I upgraded my rear axle to Dana 44, but ended up just buying a stock driveshaft for 4.0 auto Dana 44 from some junkyard for 50$. Replaced the u-joint and it is running perfectly fine.
Shortening would make sense for something that cannot be easily obtained from junkyard
