I bought a 2005 TJ May 19, 2016. It had 91,000 miles and I got it for $13,000. It had a lot of parts on it, not necessarily all high end, but a Rancho lift that was in good shape, and the Warrior Fender Flares and JCR sliders are pretty nice equipment and bumpers, an ok winch and KC lights and in box Bestop bikini and other tops.

I'm seeing people list 2001's, 99's, with 150,000 miles for $14,500....all over the place. WTF? I love Jeeps, and I have 3, and had many others, but I see a listing on FB marketplace for TJ's that are over $20,000 and aren't Rubicons or LJ's, sure they are 60,000 miles on them, but still. Seems just a little crazy to me.

I actually kept the listing information, again, not all high end, but it's got some stuff my 15 year old was super psyched (so was I):

People can be delusional when listing their Jeep prices. They won't get the asking price. Jeeps in my area sit for months with high prices, until they come to their senses and lower them significantly.
p.s. You forget to list your Body Armor front bumper. ;)

I bought my stock ‘05 in 2016 for $12k with 46,000 miles. I’m sure I could still get that today if I left it stock. With all the mods I probably wouldn’t get more than $17k for it today, but to me I wouldn’t sell for less than $35k.

So I just joined the TJ world about 3 months ago. In my area (Houston) they were listed any where from 4Kish to 18Kish. It seemed the "sweet" spot was right around the 9K-12K mark. That would get you a lower mileage (sub 160Kish) 4.0L, working A/C, good running condition, well maintained, and usually the standard goodies like lift, wheels, tires, suspension, etc. Most of the stuff under that mark was in need of some form of fixing, higher mileage, no or non-working a/c, stock suspension setup, and maybe a set of wheels and tires. At the very low end you had what I would refer to as your "deer lease/Farm" Jeeps. Rough and dependable enough to get you around in small areas, with zero creature comforts. Than on the other extreme you had the "nicer" TJ' that were clearly well maintained, however the owner wanted their money back for all the aftermarket goodies they had on it.

I did notice during my FB MP shopping, that about 70% of people were willing to go lower than their listed price. I honestly chalk this up to doing business on FB MP, as its full of cheap d&*ks who lowball you on everything. Therefore list it higher than your bottom dollar. This way you can either settle on your bottom dollar or possibly just a tad more. I also realized that most people would leave out quite a bit of smaller details, or just out and out lie about the condition. I showed up to look at some "good" jeeps, that were absolute nightmares.

Yes sir. When I was in the market, I offered a few folks what I thought was a fair price for their Jeep. They said no. 6 weeks later they had them listed under my offer.

There's an 04' Rubicon with 28,000 miles near me that was listed for $21,000 6 weeks ago. It's $18,000 and dropping now. Ad says, engine has a tick. Another 04' Rubicon with 69,000 miles list for $18,000 20 weeks ago, now $15,000.

The same trend can be seen up in Canada as well, except pretty much all the jeeps up here have had or currently have varying amounts of rust. Just like what @SouthernTJ2000 said about undisclosed issues, M jeep had some hidden gremlins that weren't revealed at the time of purchase.

The average price for TJ's here ranges from $7k up to $25k depending on how many goodies, mileage, trim level, state of corrosion, and mental state of the seller.

I paid $8500 for mine in the summer of 2017 with 180,000km. It had about 7000km on a re-manned long block and trans, new clutch, master+slave cyl, throwout bearing, radiator, starter, alternator, brakes, and ball-joints.

Since then I've added a few of my own mods but It's hard to say if I've added to the value of the jeep or not... One can only speculate.

I bought my 2000 TJ with 192k miles for $3k in January 2024. It was 100% stock and included both factory tops. It supposedly had a bad transmission (previous owner had new clutch put in and they used Syncromesh fluid) and the AC didn't work. I changed the fluid to Redline and put in a new AC relay.

Here is one that the local Jeep dealership has for sale. Granted it is at a dealership, but to me it is WAY too much.

Excuse me WHAT.

I got my 01 Sahara 3spd for $13.5K with 93K miles back in October.

Out here in Dallas, TJs seem to go for $6k with over 20K miles, or $15K with less than 100K.

Also look at this joke...
