hoping some that have messed with TJ's of different configurations and years can shed some light on what changed through TJ production and help figure out if other Mopar units can be used as an alternative if the original part for the model year is discontinued.

52080181 - 97-01 2.5L auto trans aluminum
52080183 - 97-02 4.0 manual trans aluminum
52080184 - 97-01 4.0 auto trans aluminum
52080186 - 97-01 model RHD, all engines
I find it interesting that the 2.5L and all autos went from the 5208 to the 5503 part numbers in 02 while 4.0 manuals waited until 03, and wonder what changed and is there any reason you can't put a 52080183 (which appear to be still available) on a 2006?
