hoping some that have messed with TJ's of different configurations and years can shed some light on what changed through TJ production and help figure out if other Mopar units can be used as an alternative if the original part for the model year is discontinued.

I've pieced this together from the parts manuals.

55037652 - 03-06 manual trans
55037653 - 02-06 auto trans
55037654 - 02-06 RHD

55037657 - 2002 2.5L manual trans
55037658 - 2002 2.5L auto

52028123 - 97-99 copper/brass all engines
52080180 - 97-01 2.5L manual trans aluminum
52080181 - 97-01 2.5L auto trans aluminum
52080183 - 97-02 4.0 manual trans aluminum
52080184 - 97-01 4.0 auto trans aluminum
52080186 - 97-01 model RHD, all engines

I find it interesting that the 2.5L and all autos went from the 5208 to the 5503 part numbers in 02 while 4.0 manuals waited until 03, and wonder what changed and is there any reason you can't put a 52080183 (which appear to be still available) on a 2006?

I just ordered a 55037652 on Amazon and it shipped for $223. They list 3 available right now. Mopar 5503 7652AA, Radiator https://a.co/d/jePARkJ

Mine started weeping around the upper tank seam.

Cool. I just ordered one...guess I'll see if it shows up. A couple weeks ago they were close to $500 and nobody seemed to be able to find them.

mine runs warmer than I think it should and I just crawled under it and found no Mopar logo next to the petcock, so I'm pretty sure it's an inferior aftermarket unit.

I still hope this thread gets added to, just for the future reference of others. Looking back I actually appear to have put a 7652 on my '99 instead of the 52080183, so it seems at least the mounting to the grill and fan shroud stayed the same over the years.

Mine is doing the same but I have mopar logo. 85k on the system and 17 years may do it. I flushed it last year but these hot days seem to pushing it further than I would like.

Especially compared to @MountaineerTom figures with the same fan clutch I had.

my '99 would get up to 235 on my drive home from work in 95 degree heat as I climbed from 4600 to 6000 feet over 30 miles. I put a Mopar radiator on it and never really saw 210 again, except for some isolated spikes into the 210s that I think were related to the fan clutch. My 06 gets into the 220's when climbing hills closer to sea level when ambient is in the 90s...I'm not sure I would have thought much of it except I saw my '99 hold below 210 no matter what I threw at it, including 90 degree air at 9000 feet, so I believe my 2006 should as well.

The mounting was the same over all the years as far as I know. I'm not sure why they had so many different part numbers though. You can run a TJ radiator on a YJ even. Back in the YJ days I believe they all shipped with the same radiator, or at least that was what everyone said. It definitely wasn't broken down into as many numbers as the TJ has. Either way the mounting remained the same through the TJs yet they had more part numbers. It's confusing. I feel like really all that matters is that on the autos you have the ATF chamber. Other than that, I don't think it matters what you run too much.

I hope Mopar is not discontinuing the 55037652 soon.

Mopar's official status is that it's discontinued, and a few members here have been told as much by dealerships. There appear to be a few still floating around in the supply chain.

Interestingly, Crown makes a 52080183 and I'm curious what level of heat transfer capacity and quality it has.

I've been running a Spectra from Napa for a while now, granted the last few years haven't been hardly any use. If Mopar is done, then I'll likely just stick to Spectra. Not as high of quality I'm sure, but it certainly gets the job done and I've had no failures. I ran one in my Ranger for 50K as well because I couldn't get the Motorcraft anymore.

That is a lot of different part numbers.

My system isn't that old. My entire cooling system was replaced in Nov. 2019, except the heater core that was replaced in Feb 2018. Radiator, radiator cap, water pump, t-stat, t-stat housing, temp sensor, and all hoses were MOPAR ordered from Amazon and Rock Auto. The metal pipe off the water pump was Dorman. I did a Prestone flush at that time too, including draining the block a couple times during the flush.

Thanks. Unfortunately the heater cores have been oos for a long time now. I check performance radiator every few weeks.

I have everything else en route but gates hoses and a mopar fan clutch just to see if it's any quieter.

I did such a refresh on my TJ in 2018 and it ran great afterward, with the one notable thing that the coolant always looked like crap. Didn't matter how many times I flushed it out, I never did get it nice and clean.

My 06 got a new thermostat and a coolant flush in 2021, and the Zerex G-05 still has that look of slightly concentrated urine in the overflow bottle :ROFLMAO: . When I change the radiator I'll drain the stuff out and put it back in.

They showed one still available. Just ordered it, hopefully it will show. 2004 with 105k on I still believe the original radiator and wp.

I'll have to get that next. Damn money pit :ROFLMAO:

@freedom_in_4low , I'm glad you made this post and @Longwhitejeep added the link to Amazon. I was a little concerned also of a deal to good to be true.

I don't need one at the moment but next year I plan on doing the complete over haul to the cooling system.

And I think that was a very reasonable price also.

*Edit, It actually showed up on Thursday not Friday. I'm on vacation and my brain has started to shut down already

Turns out my dumb ass forgot the Mopar logo is above the petcock, not next to it, which means mine is hidden by the fan shroud I lowered when I did my tuck. My radiator is Mopar. Based on the decal on the upper tank though, I think it's probably original, so it's 16 years old with 130k miles on it and replacing it won't hurt anything.

Ok, fighting an high temp issues right now myself.

Currently running a Autozone Radiator (didn't have time to shop for MOPAR) that I just bought two months ago but at this point, willing to try anything.

Any one know where I can buy a MOPAR 52080184 - 97-01 4.0 auto trans aluminum ?

I see a FVP RAD1682 on Rock Auto that is listed as a Premium.....any thoughts?

My 97 TJ is my daily driver and I have a LONG post on here about all that has been replaced/repaired on it.....to include a Zero Mile Engine Build...... still running as high as 240 in PHX AZ....

The main difference is how the cooler lines attach. As near as I can tell, there are 3 methods. Early is straight inverted flare. Mid range is the small nipple on the end of straight threads that seals inside an o-ring like the later quick disconnect versions and then in 05-06, they switched to the quick disconnect push in snap retainer style.

Right hand drive versions can be used but you will need to swap the mounting flanges from the existing radiator. I can get a better comparison when it is daylight but they move the radiator over for the RHD versions and that radiator is also known as the Middle East Option in the dealer computer system.

The only gotcha other than cooler connections that I'm aware of is the early 97 has some fitment issues with the AC lines going into the condenser.

The reason I wouldn't use the copper and brass is they don't cool as well as the later ones as far as I can tell. IIRC, they are a less than stellar 2 row core which isn't as good as the later 1 row.
