My 41,500 miles manual shift 2001 TJ was running great, no codes. Suddenly it now cranks for maybe 8-10 seconds before finally starting. Once started it seems to run fine, but possibly idling at a slightly lower idle speed. Still no codes.

Where should I start, replace camshaft position sensor? Crankshaft position sensor? Any advice on what brand and best source to purchase?

Or could it possibly be fuel pump issue maybe?

Thx for suggestions.

Let the Jeep sit for a while until the engine is cool.

Before starting it up, turn the key to the on position but do not start it. Let the fuel pump prime for 5 seconds or so. Turn the key off and then do this again letting the fuel pump prime once more.

After doing that a few times, try starting it. Does it fire right up or does it continue to crank for a long time?

I'm going to bring back an old thread because I'm having this issue today and can't quite figure it out. The battery tested fine. It cranks for maybe 5 seconds, then starts. Even after being warm for a while it always takes about 5 seconds. Cranks really strong no stuggle.

I've tried the key on/off a few times to prime, but it still takes 5 seconds.

I wish this year had the pressure gauge option on the rail.

The gas is older so I'm going to throw in some new gas next time I'm working on it.

You can probably get a fitting to go between the quick connect and the rail that will add a Schrader for you
