I picked up an older, but unused TrepTop NX for my '04 TJ. Inside the aft corners, where the plastic corner support piece slides in, I found an 18 inch (approx) fabric tube (sewn but open on both ends) which is made with same material as the actual top. It was doubled over and slid inside of the corner piece. I have no idea what the purpose of this is...anyone? No mention of it from the TrekTop website / instruction pdf etc.

Not exactly sure what you have, but my LJ corners slip into a separate sleeve (open on one end). Then the whole thing slips into the pocket sewn into the top. Basically, an extra layer of material around the plastic.
Might just be a storage bag for the corners. I pull mine out when I take the top off and fold it up for the winter.
