Top of the World September 12, 2020

Have you done the East side of the lollipop? If so, what’s it like? I wanted to do the loop, but more so wanted to work with my group to not toss them in deeper than they were ready for since this was day 1.
Completely missed any turnoff. Went up to the top and back down the same way but no idea which side. Was with a JK that was mostly stock that we met at the trailhead. Nothing seemed hard on the trail just monotonous. My navigator pays no attention so that doesn’t help.

I planned to do the loop, but a side by side stopped us to share what they saw. No worries though, it leaves something for the spring!

Elephant hill was one of my favorites. @JMT and I ran it toward the end of the trip. Not that hardest trail but the scenery was amazing. Did you do poison spider?
Elephant Hill was interesting, not difficult, but you could hit 60mph in the flats. I’m sure I wasn’t supposed to do that, but hey, you only live twice.

I didn’t think Elephant Hill was hard at all but the views were worth it and hiking the joint was fun.

Yes!! We bombed a bit on white rim too... though on the tail end of elephant hill we got stopped by a ranger...

I’m glad to read others about the difficulty though, I was trying to gauge if I’m messed up or if I’m helping train up some others that will appreciate what we did. Talking after the fact, I think my Buddy is up to build a little more for our future trips!

I’m surprised there’s no comments on the SBS that is screaming while they throttle out midway through... it was quick but holy cow.

We ran Elephant Hill and Poison Spider with the JK we met on Top of the World. They had no lockers but ran 35’s, doubt they regeared either but they did fine on all those trails.

According to YouTube there’s a decent bit of traffic from here, if any of you are on YouTube please subscribe and like or dislike so I know what to improve!

I finally got to Moab after a few jeeps and always wanting to be ready for it. This trip was with my buddy in a 96 4Runner that he has built from salvage to a pretty awesome build.

Given that it was my first moab trip and I’m new to video, I made a number of errors in recording but published what I have.

I think the rest of the trip has a bit more well rounded video as I’m learning and remembering what shots I want.

Nice video. That obstacle at 2:00 mark, basically the first obstacle, was muddy when we were there. I messed with it for about 5minutes and got up. Most went the bypass route or the climb just to the left. @ac_ broke stuff and bent a bracket trying to do a few ledges right there in 2wd. Love the trail bc the overlook is so remarkable. Best view I’ve ever seen.

We ran TOTW. The group decided we didn't have enough adult beverages to celebrate our triumphs, so they enlisted me to bonzi it to Moab before the state run adult beverage store closed. No problem. Air up. sit down, shut up, and hold on as I made it back with 10 minutes to spare.

The most memorable thing about Utah to me was the liquor laws. I haven't been to Moab since 2017 when I was 18, but I remember the hell my Dad went through to get a damn beer in the town. Now that I'm 21, I'll be sure to stock up in Colorado or Wyoming before I head into town.

I've heard that the laws have become more liberal recently which should be a relatively good thing.

It wasn’t too bad when we were there, but I agree and plan to load up in ID before I hit the border. Mormons.

Remember, PBR is the official TJFest 2020 beer. 🤣 Although Rolling Rock is my go to right now. But I really like Bellhaven Scottish Ale.

Very nice job on the video!

Very nice job on the video!

Thanks! I think the Elephant hill part 1 video will be even more fun - the video is more well rounded but still just improving on what it takes. I am spotting so many more good spots to get set up for shots that I missed since I was ironically the more veteran offroader this trip and was spotting most obstacles. Spotting is a lot of fun too to picture where wheels are going.
