Toplift Pro single person hardtop removal (anyone seen this in person?)

Looks pretty nifty, doesn't it? But at $1000+ it's just outrageously way too expensive. They don't make it for TJs, but I do like the idea of of being able to remove the hard top by yourself.

I’ve seen a lot of JK owners with this. It’s cool, but it would take up way too much room in my garage. I prefer my Lange ceiling hoist in all honesty.

If I had a massive garage, that would be a different story.

We just bought one. You are correct, it’s pricey. I just never got around to putting a lift system in our garage to take the top off of her JK. So, we went ahead and bought one. It took me and my buddy about two hours to assemble. I was able to roll it out of my garage to our driveway, lift the top off her Jeep and roll it back in. There is a big lip where the concrete lifted and I was able to roll over that with the top on the lift. I roll it to the back of my garage and my wife pulls the front of her Jeep under the lifted top. No problems at all. She is so happy driving without the hard top now. I like that I don’t have to position the Jeep exactly right in the garage to lower the top onto it using a cable system. I will just roll the cart outside, lower it down and bolt away. At its stock height, the cart just barely cleared the underside of the hardtop on her stock JK. They give extra leg components to build it higher for lifted Jeeps. They say you only need 4” between the cart and the back wall. I have very limited garage space and this worked.

Let me know if you have any specific questions and I will try to answer them. This is the first time I’ve used it and when I put the top back on, that will be the first time for that as well. But, I really don’t feel there will be any issues whatsoever. I did the removal and rolling the cart into the garage alone. It has been on that cart in the air for several weeks now. My wife is happy. So, for me it was worth the investment.

Wonder why it won't work with a TJ? Balance?

I only have a soft top on my TJ, so I can’t try. It’s just a matter of getting it inside of the shell and getting the lifting surface under the inside of the top. I really don’t see why you couldn’t, if things match up and you have lifting height.

I thought I would stop by with an update. I put my wife’s top on her JK with the lift tonight. We are heading into the 40’s and she has to park near the airport next week. It took me all of about 3 minutes to put the top on. The bolts and other bits another 10 or so. It was faster than doing my soft top. Who would have thought. If anyone has a TJ in my area and wants to try to see if the lift works for the hard top, let me know. We can give it a whirl.

Yep me to but I did change the rear support slightly but it is 90% the same

I used a 2x6 in the rear (with carpet glued to it) for extra support. I also have a second set of chains from the eyebolts to the supports that I attach when the top is hoisted to make damn sure it never falls.

That's a pretty damn nice setup. I bet you could do the same with a wireless winch and still be way under the cost of the TopLiftPros thing.

We just bought one for our 2006 LJ. We weren’t sure if it would work but talked to the owner of the company and he explained what we need to do because of how heavy and long the top is. Took about 10 min being our first time but works great and so glad we made the purchase!!!! I would say it would definitely be easier on a TJ and with only 1 person with no issues.

We are contemplating this jack or the Rollin jack. I like the crank jack but Simone mentioned jack binding causing the top to fall as a possibility. I’ve had boats for years no issues lol

Hi - Please explain what the owner shared with you. I just picked one up at a very good price used after reading your success, and I cannot figure out how to do it with my LJ. I had to tip it just to get it underneath the rear windshield wiper. Then, with practically all of my weight on it, it barely lifted up the rear of the top and the front didn’t seem to budge. At that point, I chickened out and thought I’d ask what instructions you received…

I have one too. It will work on a TJ if you trim the top supports a little - see my photo below.

I used to remove and install my hard top single-handed on my back. I'd get in stand up a little with its weight on my shoulders and walk it back & off. It wasn't the easiest job but it worked well enough that I did it that way for a couple years. I finally started using an old electric hoist from Harbor Freight I had but it was hard to get the top centered well enough underneath it so it came off level without swinging around. Once it swung around after clearing the rollcage and popped my eye hard enough to give me a HUGE black eye. Which happened the day before my 1st day as development officer for a hospice. I had to give an introductory presentation of my plans for the year that first day and when I walked up to the front to start with a big black eye I'm sure they were wondering if they hired the right guy lol.

Nothing makes that job easy lol
