Hi All. I'm kinda new to jeeps and just got my first tj back in September. It is a 1999 2.5 Automatic and I a question about some odd behavior when driving at cruising speed in 3rd gear. The transmission seems to drop in and out of lockup pretty consistently. Just a momentary jump of approximately 200 RPM's and then back to normal speed. It seems to me that the torque converter is jumping in and out of lockup. I know this is normal as my other vehicles will do this but it is usually going up a hill or something that triggers it. Is this normal for an old 2.5 jeep? Is there an adjustment that needs doing or a part replaced? Outside of this I have her running pretty much like new. Thanks.

That's pretty normal. The computer unlocks the torque converter when it senses you need more power (stepping on the gas) and then relocks it once you stop trying to accelerate and you're at a cruising speed.
