Total frame replacement?

Honestly, I'm surprised that the dealership would let you leave the premises with your Jeep instead of giving you two options.

1) buy one of our brand new better than ever Jeeps

2) call an uber

Seriously you need someone besides a dealer to take a look but I'm not near Oregon so you need more help than I can give you beyond THIS

I didnt watch 100% of the video but yes, the frame is in BAD shape in the areas they pointed out. I guessing the dirty oil spots are trans fluid and their telling you you need a new transmission. The engine oil leaks are typical of a 4.0 engine, not the end of the world, just messy. I'm sure this comment will piss off plenty, but Chrysler should be hung for making such shitty rust bucket frames for so many years. Unfortunately they rust inside even worst. Ive had vehicles from Alaska and we lived on the foggy wet coast and NEVER have seen issues like jeep does with frame rust, even our TJ who has spent its life in Arizona has rust.

Dodge/jeep dealership did a diagnostic on my “new” 2000 sahara and found so much rust on the frame they aren’t even confident of a weld repair. I sent the videos below to an independent jeep mechanic, and he agreed. I need ideas. I read something about caps in this forum. Help

The mechanic was very good and thorough. There aren't too many that will crawl under your car with a cell phone and video their inspection.

I think the car is VERY UNSAFE! I would NOT DRIVE it until major frame work. And, other rusted/separated parts are fixed. $$$$$

That thing seems to be a gonner, unfortunately. By the looks of it it needs a frame and tub, that is a LOT of rust.

To be completely frank, who ever sold that to you should have just parted it out or disclosed it was too bad to salvage the frame at a minimum. We’re talking thousands of dollars in parts alone to fix, dozens of hours of labor. Probably several thousand dollars and it could still come back if you don’t just replace everything.

First hand experience tells that the inside of that whole frame is just FULL of rust flakes, and will never be savable. Everywhere they cut they are gonna find more paper thin frame walls.

You didn't crawl under the rig prior to purchase? I'd sell for parts and start over with a TJ from Southern California or Arizona.

I left it in their lot. I have friends working at this dealership, and other mechanic who watched the video had no skin in the game. That guy offered his lawyer 😬

Mechanically it’s fairly sound, but the validation on the frame’s condition is helping me decide next steps

Man, I'm so sorry you had to go through this. No one deserves it. I'm sure you were excited about the new jeep. May I ask how much you paid for it? Hopefully not a big loss.

I’m in shock really. Just gathering information to process. I’ve been advised to seek legal due to level of safety risk potentially known at time of sale. But I’m not there yet. This thread is helping me let go so I can focus on facts

Interesting. Do you suspect fraud or misrepresation?

I see facts don’t line up for sure. That’s why legal action may be needed. Both mechanics said I had a case, especially when ad said brakes and shocks were done in last year but dealership mechanic didn’t see evidence of that. Seller said his daughter drove it 2.5 years but he’s only owned it since last August (I ran carfax last night). He did oil change himself, or privately, just last week. Seems to me that would have been a great opportunity to view the damage to frame!
