Tow hook recommendations for stock TJ

I recently bought my dad a set of stock hooks with bolts for his 98. 25ish bucks on ebay. I figured it was a good deal?

I'm a bit shocked that Curt would put out something like they did. Buyer's Products is also well known for good products - in general, do you think Buyer's > Curt? Just wondering...

In the current climate nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to QC. And Blaine got some Buyers ones that were not good as well.

Mine came from Harbor Freight. Think they were less than $10 each. I mostly use mine to hold Mr. B's excellent winch rope when I'm done winching but not done looking for trouble.

It’s like an aircraft arresting hook.

Many have mounted the Curt style hooks at an angle on the side of the frame that you can see in the 1st pic.

Neither of my TJs including one I bought new came with any rear hook like the top two above.

I had the OE rear tow hook that has been PIF'd around here onto a few jeeps. From @NashvilleTJ to me until I swapped to a Barnes low profile bumper and from me on to @RED97SE and who know from there. Would be interesting to track it.. Like a tagged Grizzly. Or a Great White. um... sorry.. got a little carried away.

Switched to frame mounted like many others. It was a HF purchase and the bottom didn't need any attention.

Where'd you find the nut plate with the nuts welded to it like in your photo? Pretty slick. I just fished mine up into the frame one at a time.

I made it. Took just a few minutes. Stole the idea from @Woodrow

Bought the Curt hooks a few weeks back and haven’t installed them yet on the LJ.
Saw this thread and just went out to the garage to check the hooks.
Yep rounded on the bottom not even close to being flat.
Thanks for the heads up Mr. Blaine and crew.
Will look into other options.. or try to find the Warn ones I took off the TJ in the large pile of TJ parts.

Yeah, I was about to say that if my stuff deteriorates that fast, I need to stop sending it to folks.

The Barbie Jeep rope from Amazon went from bright red to pink in 24 hrs.

Mr. B's rope is still leaking red "winch fluid" in the white snow. Absolutely freaked me out for a second because I thought it was power steering ATF.
