I and looking into a no 231 t case out of an xj and was wondering if it would fit into my tj. (2001 sahara 4.0) I am willing to swap the input shaft as I have done it before just wondering if it will bolt on properly.

The xj 231s are clocked differently and hang down several degrees more than tj 231s. Not to mention the different input shaft lengths and spline counts.
The amount of trouble to make one work isn’t worth it imo.

The clocking is done on the transmission end. Transfer cases are the same. The front half of my case is from an XJ and it went on exactly the way the TJ one did.

The Novak page will help figure out your spline count. With a stick the length doesn't matter much, but the 42rle needs a short input and the 32rh needs a long, so you may need to swap depending on what you get from the XJ.
