Noob here. Doing a body lift on 2006 Jeep Wrangler X (automatic) and instructions say if I have a transfer case drop kit, I have to install a transfer case shifter bracket.

How do I know if I have this? Vehicle is stock as of right now.

Thanks.

The shifter is attached to the body and the drivetrain. If you do a body lift and a TV drop. You’ll create a missalignment that larger than the linkage can accomodate.

If it is stock you don't have a TC drop. If you are unsure check to see if the skid plate is bolted flush to the frame. If it is, no drop.

Are you doing a suspension lift as well? I’m also fairly new but I would recommend a basic 2” suspension lift for a tj before a body lift. It just doesn’t make a lot of since to do a body lift(unless combining with suspension) because of how budget and install friendly the small suspension lifts are.

If you’re doing a suspension lift as well then disregard my statement 🤣

Just a body lift. Getting my feet wet for now. Adding slightly bigger wheels but nothing crazy. Maybe down the road will do a suspension lift.

A body lift is a great first step to modifying your Jeep. Even a small suspension lift can get expensive fast if you do it right. I had a 1" body lift installed with the stock linkage. After you install the BL you will just need to loosen the adjuster screw and work with it to find the right spot. It's not perfect but neither is the factory design. A lot of people have upgraded to the Savvy cable shifter to eliminate the stock linkage all together.
Also make sure you get aluminum pucks and avoid any body lift that uses poly. The poly pucks can deform over time and under torque.

But I don’t need this if I just lift it 1.25” and don’t do anything else right?

I used this advanced adapters bracket that moves the linkage from the tub to the transfer case so everything can move whatever way with minimal adjustments and not new bracketed.

So I will definitely have to make an adjustment to the linkage? Not as simple as putting in the 11 pucks and being done?
You will need to make adjustments to the linkage and relocate your fan shroud which is as easy as drilling new holes in the plastic. The fuel filler hose will need to be extended once the lift is in. It will have enough lenght so you don't have to replace it. The whole job doesn't take long.
