Evening fellow Jeepers!,

So, it's seal day at the house! OMG, finally got the shaft seal changed out (I bent my new seal puller) Anyway, I also had a bad leak in the adapter seal. I replaced it and its leaking over the top. Now, the trans is still "hanging" down as I have to change the seals in the transfer case.Is this normal? Is there another seal that I need to change out?

Are you saying it's leaking over the seal while it's not mated to the transfer case? I think that is expected. That seal doesn't seal up against the output shaft.

There are only 3 seals on the 32RH: the pump/input shaft seal, the shift selector seal, and the output shaft seal on the extension housing. That seal doesn't actually seal up the transmission, it seals around the input shaft from the transfer case. There's also a seal at the input shaft on the t-case. If either of those are leaking you'll get fluid coming out the weep hole in the extension housing. Maybe you knew all that, IDK.

Are you sure from which side is it leaking? And by any chance when you installed it, did you lube it up before you ran it? I also seem to maybe recall that there were two slightly different size seals for the output shaft, but I could be getting that confused with something else. It's also possible you need the extended output seal, depending on if you have a short/medium/long input shaft on your t-case. @machoheadgames is the man with those answers.

If you have either the transmission or the t-case empty but the other one loaded up with ATF, you can tell from which side it's leaking.

Yes it's leaking over the top of the new seal.

I have changed out the selector seal (that was a bear) and the adapter seal. The transfer case was full when I emptied it. I plan on changing out all the transfer case seals to make sure I get the culprit. It has signs of leaking from the seals.

I am not sure which side was leaking. the transfer case is soaked with old ATF. I did lube it up. I haven't run it yet as it's not together. I believe the input shaft is factory. In fact, I believe it's a pretty bone stock Jeep.

Appreciate the reply. Everything i know about my Jeep, I have learned here and on Youtube.

You have to get it all back together. Yes, it will leak if it’s not back together.
