Hi all!

Went 4wd this weekend with my mate and taken it up a wet clay hill that I really shouldn't have but she made it, albeit not without a couple bumps against the rock underneath. Drove another hour to a second track and while waiting for my mate to make it up a section, while in first and holding the brake, my engine cut suddenly. Started again and it wasnt engaging with Drive or anything, but after stopping and starting it again it worked. However, realised that it wasn't engaging with reverse and neutral was driving. Got it to where we were staying with relative difficulty, as Drive was 1k revs over what it normally would and which struggle to go between 1st 2nd and 3rd. These issues were relieved when I replaced the trans fluid (I believe I probably got a leak the previous weekend), but the car still doesn't have N or R correct, and P, although I think it's Park, doesn't feel quite right. I believe I may have bent the linkages while driving up the hill and I would REALLY rather fix it myself because I have not got the money to get my mechanic to fix it unless I really have to.

You may need to adjust the shifter cable linkage.

I would start by disconnecting the shifter linkage at the transmission and manually shift it into each gear to verify if you've got a shifter/linkage problem or something in the transmission.

I'll be perfectly honest, this is my first car and one I have only been driving for under a month, and while I know what the linkage's are, I don't know how to adjust or disconnect them.

Are there any guides online or places I can go to figure this out?

Again I would really rather not go to my mechanic if it's going to be expensive.
